Local leaders speak on Central Texas food resources ahead of SNAP benefits pause
AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday, Travis County and Austin city leaders are expected to discuss the pause in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and how it impacts Central Texas.
SNAP benefits are expected to pause Nov. 1 due to the current federal government shutdown.
According to the city, local partner organizations are also expected to be present as leaders to help provide information and resources that are available to Central Texans facing food insecurity.
The news conference begins at 10:30 a.m. Austin Mayor Kirk Watson, Travis County Judge Andy Brown, Central Texas Food Bank CEO Sari Vitske and United Way for Greater Austin CEO Ingrid Taylor are expected to be present.
