Rodrigo García Heads To Mexico City For Netflix Original Movie ‘The Follies,’ Starring Cassandra Ciangherotti
EXCLUSIVE: Rodrigo García’s Mexican film The Follies will drop globally on the streamer on Nov. 20 with a week-long qualifying run in theaters beforehand. We’ve got a first-look at the picture from the film, which was announced as part of Netflix’s latest slate of Mexican originals.
The movie, Las Locuras in Spanish, follows Renata, who is under house arrest and on the brink of a manic episode. Per the synopsis, her interactions with her family, lovers and friends will take the audience on a tour of lives crumbling under maddening pressure on a stormy day in Mexico City.
“The Follies marks my return home to work in Mexico City, and it has been an extraordinary personal and professional experience,” García told Deadline. He writes and directs and added: “I am very proud of the film and forever grateful for the unforgettable performances. And for the great support from Netflix Latin America.”
Cassandra Ciangherotti stars in the film, which also features Ilse Salas, Ángeles Cruz, Natalia Solián, Naian González Norvind and Fernanda Castillo in the cast. Adriana Barraza, Alfredo Castro, Raúl Briones, Monica del Carmen, Fernando Cattori and Vicky Araico round out the supporting cast.
Netflix has been investing in originals out of LatAm and we were first with the news of the new Mexican slate. García’s last film, Familia, was also on the streamer. His other credits include HBO drama In Treatment, Julia Stiles web series Blue, which he created, and Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke double-hander Raymond & Ray, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.
