Aspiring Australian Actors With Hollywood Ambitions Handed Help Through AIF & NIDA Partnership
EXCLUSIVE: The cream of Australia’s acting talent basis is being given a helping hand into Hollywood.
Australians in Film (AIF), an L.A.-based non-profit, is teaming with Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) to create a partnership that will offer actors professional development and student and alumni support as they seek to establish careers in Tinseltown.
The initiative will provide them with industry pathways, connecting NIDA students past and present to networking opportunities. They’ll be given access to AIF’s West Hollywood studio lot office to take meetings, along with AIF’s programs and personalized support services such as one-on-one meeting prior to their arrival in Los Angeles. AIF also has an extensive business and creative network, to which they will be introduced.
The partnership will be for both NIDA’s 2025 Acting graduates but and graduates and alumni across all NIDA disciplines, namely Design for Performance, Writing, Directing, Costume, Props, Set Construction and Technical Theatre and Stage Management.
NIDA is consistently ranked among the world’s top drama schools, and has trained the likes of Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Sarah Snook, Anna Torv, Hugo Weaving, Mel Gibson, Miranda Tapsell, Harriet Dyer, Sam Worthington and Miranda Otto, and directors Baz Luhrmann and Kip Williams.
AIF was established back in 2001 as a TV, film and digital content organization seeking to increase opportunities for Australians in Hollywood through accelerator programs, screenings, and networking and industry sessions.
Peter Ritchie, Executive Director of AIF, praised NIDA’s impact on young Australian students, saying: “Our missions are closely aligned, and we share a deep commitment to supporting Australia’s finest creative talent on the global stage. As AIF enters a new chapter focused on creating more strategic and meaningful international professional pathways, this collaboration offers an ideal platform for NIDA graduates and alumni to thrive.”
NIDA CEO Liz Hughes added: “NIDA’s reputation in Hollywood has been established over decades. We are keen to ensure that NIDA students and alumni have direct pathways into key global industry hubs. We are delighted to be working with AiF to support the NIDA community who are either working in LA or aspiring to do so.”
