People who harass ICE agents face years in prison under new proposal

U.S. Senator Ashley Moody is introducing new legislation called the Halo Act that would, if passed, outlaw people from getting too close to or harassing federal immigration officers while they are carrying out their job.

The Republican Senator’s proposed law, first reported by Fox News, would make it illegal for people who have been told to stay back from getting within 25 feet of a federal officer, or otherwise interfering with their work, including making physical threats against them.

Violators would face up to five years in prison and a fine, per the report.

“As the wife of a law enforcement officer, former attorney general, and now United States senator, I have always supported and fought for the selfless individuals who protect and serve our nation,” Moody told Fox News Digital.

“I am appalled at the news reports of people harassing and targeting federal officers while they are simply trying to do their jobs, and this must end.”

This is a breaking news story. Updates to follow.
