TriStar Pictures Lands Supernatural Romance Pitch From ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Director Dean Fleischer Camp
EXCLUSIVE: Following a bidding war, Sony’s TriStar Pictures has landed the untitled supernatural romance pitch from Lilo & Stich director Dean Fleischer Camp. The pitch went to market this summer following the billion-dollar box-office success of his Disney live-action pic Lilo & Stich, with TriStar ultimately landing the coveted project.
The film follows two star-crossed lovers set in the Austen era who must face a supernatural twist that threatens to tear them apart. Camp will write and direct as well as produce alongside Marcel producers Andrew Goldman and Paul Mezey at Present Company as well as Caroline Kaplan.
Camp is an acclaimed filmmaker whose work spans major studio tentpoles and award-winning independent films. He most recently directed Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, which crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office and is the only Hollywood film to reach that milestone this year. Camp first drew widespread acclaim for A24’s Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, based on the beloved short film series he co-created with Jenny Slate. The feature earned rave reviews, won an Annie Award and was nominated for a number of awards including the Best Animated Feature Oscar.
Camp is repped by CAA, Mosaic and Granderson Des Rochers.
