Construction Underway On 10,000 SqM Shams Studios In United Arab Emirates
Construction is underway in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on ambitious 9,600 square meter production facility, Shams Studios.
Those behind the studio want it to serve as “a hub for international producers, offering soundstages and production facilities” and for it to help “establish Sharjah as a global centre for film, TV, and streaming content creation”.
Organizers have set themselves an ambitious opening date, telling us today they aim to be operational in Q1, 2027.
Once completed, the plan is for the venue to offer five purpose-built soundstages, offering a total of 9,600 square meters of indoor production space, comprising three stages of 1,500 square meters each, another stage of 2,000 square meters, and a larger stage measuring 3,100 square meters.
Each stage has been designed to comply with international acoustic, structural, and electrical standards, and will be able to accommodate hybrid digital and virtual production workflows. Above is an artist’s impression of the completed studio complex.
Located within Sharjah Media City’s ecosystem, the site is also due to include a 700-seat theater for screenings, premieres, and cultural events, as well as the Creative Oasis district, which will offer public, educational, and cultural spaces. Other amenities are due to include workshops, production offices, post-production facilities, and talent development labs “designed to support training and growth for regional creators”.
Organizers said: “As studio space shortages persist in North America and Europe, Shams Studios aims to offer international producers, especially those from the UK, US, and India, high-capacity stages, competitive production environments, and strategic access to various global markets.”
H.E. Mr Rashid Abdulla Al Obad, Director General of Sharjah Media City (Shams), stated: “Shams Studios marks a significant advancement in Sharjah’s vision to become a global hub for film and content creation. With 9,600 square meters of purpose-built stages and a vibrant creative ecosystem, we are prepared to welcome international productions and support the next generation of storytellers in the region.”
