Woman starts 2025 with complete heartbreak but there’s an amazing twist
For two U.K. parents, the year began with a document no one ever expects to see.
Carla Weedon, 36, told Newsweek she and 27-year-old Daniel Reed received a letter from Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust titled: Baby Funeral Options Information Pack. The opening line was devastating: a deep apology for the loss of their baby.
After a 12-week scan over Christmas, the parents were told their baby was critically unwell, diagnosed with cystic hygroma and fetal hydrops, conditions that carried a very low chance of survival.
In January, their baby’s heartbeat stopped at 15 weeks. Carla was induced for a miscarriage at 16 weeks, and, shortly afterward, they learned the baby had Turner syndrome.
Carla (@carlawdc) shared her year, month by month, in a post on TikTok. After her heartbreaking loss at the beginning of 2025, February brought a photo of a fortune cookie slip that read: This year will bring you happiness.
In April, two positive pregnancy tests appeared on screen. After counseling earlier in the year, Carla began to feel emotionally steadier about trying to conceive again. “When I found out I was pregnant in April—although I felt terrified and nervous about something going wrong—it gave me hope that we had another chance of having a baby so soon,” Carla said.
Over the following months, her post moves through photos of her growing bump, a gender-reveal cake and ultrasound scans.
By November, the final slide shows Carla holding a tiny baby in her arms. Her son, Sonny, was born early at 36 weeks after a difficult birth and spent his first weeks navigating the challenges of being premature.
Carla and Daniel’s story is going viral on TikTok, clocking up over 424,000 views. She captioned her post: “Started off so bad but soon became the best year of my life.”
In the comments, viewers were rooting for the family sharing their congratulations.
“You deserve the world,” one user said.
“The little sigh I did after the first slide,” another added.
For Carla, baby loss and fertility struggles were all-consuming, narrowing life to appointments, waiting and worry. “I am hoping sharing my story shows how quickly life can change and gives hope to people who are currently struggling,” she said.
Now settled at home, Carla and Daniel are adjusting to life with a newborn. Sonny is 3 weeks old, and the household is quieter, fuller and very different from how the year began.
