Verizon is offering a $20 account credit to customers affected by a widespread outage that disrupted service across the United States.

Why It Matters

Tens of thousands of customers were affected by the incident, which began on January 14 and lasted up to 10 hours in some areas. It left customers unable to make calls, send texts or access data services, sparking frustration and concerns about network reliability nationwide.

While the outage has been resolved, questions remain about the incident’s cause and the process for obtaining compensation.

Is Verizon Offering Credit or a Refund?

Verizon has confirmed that it will provide affected customers with a $20 account credit.

This compensation is intended to acknowledge customers’ time lost during the outage.

The company said in a message on social media: “This credit isn’t meant to make up for what happened. No credit really can. But it’s a way of acknowledging your time and showing that this matters to us.”

“We are sorry for what you experienced and will continue to work hard day and night to provide the outstanding network and service that you expect from Verizon,” the statement continued.

Verizon further clarified that the $20 credit doesn’t constitute a full refund or comprehensive reimbursement but covers, on average, multiple days of standard service for most customers.

How To Claim Verizon $20 Credit

The $20 credit is available through the myVerizon mobile app.

Affected users should log into their accounts, where an option to accept the credit is expected to appear.

Customers will also receive notification via text message when the credit is posted to their accounts, Verizon said in a statement.

A specific time or date has not been provided for when the credit is due to arrive.

Business account holders will be contacted directly regarding credit arrangements, the company said.

Is the Verizon Outage Fully Resolved?

Verizon reported the resolution of the outage at 10:20 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday.

Customers were encouraged to restart their devices to confirm restored service.

The company wrote on social media: “Today, we let many of our customers down and for that, we are truly sorry. They expect more from us.

“We are working non-stop and making progress. Our teams will continue to work through the night until service is restored for all impacted customers. We will make this right—for any customer affected, we will provide account credits and share updates soon.”

At the time of writing, Verizon had not provided a detailed technical explanation for the outage.

While most customers have reported restoration of normal service, Verizon advises any users experiencing ongoing problems to contact customer support for assistance.

The Federal Communications Commission has monitored the situation, but no regulatory action has been announced.

What Happens Next

Verizon has pledged to release additional information as its review of the outage continues. “We are conducting a full review of what happened,” the company said in a statement.
