Packers’ Jeff Hafley top target for AFC head coaching job
Following the conclusion of the NFL regular season, the Miami Dolphins decided to part ways with head coach Mike McDaniel, kicking off the search for his replacement.
After several interviews and with more still to come, a frontrunner appears to have emerged: Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
“Packers DC Jeff Hafley has emerged as a frontrunner for the Dolphins head coaching job,” Pelissero reported. “No final decisions have been made. More interviews are scheduled. Four other teams have requested second interviews with Hafley. But he appears to be the leading candidate in Miami.”

Hafley isn’t done taking interviews, which means there’s still a chance another team could lure him with a more attractive offer. However, it still seems likely he will land a head coaching gig this offseason, and the Packers have already begun preparing for that by starting their search for a new defensive coordinator.
Hafley helped Green Bay develop one of the league’s most consistent defenses over the past two seasons after being hired in 2024, following his tenure as Boston College’s head coach from 2020 to 2023.
The Dolphins hired general manager John-Eric Sullivan following the end of the season, setting the stage for a major offseason in Miami with plenty of questions surrounding the future of their roster—something Hafley would have to navigate if he ends up being hired in the coming days or weeks.
