‘The Traitors’ Season 4’s Monet X Change rejected pointers from Bob the Drag Queen: “I was like, ‘No, you’re a loser, I don’t want advice from you'”
RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants may not have a great winning percentage when it comes to The Traitors, but they certainly are some of the most entertaining players the show has welcomed.
Sadly, after just three full episodes in Season 4 of the Peacock competition series, Monet X Change became the latest Drag Race alum to fall short of the $250,000 prize, a full year after his drag sister, Bob the Drag Queen, was also booted from the game. Despite their close relationship — including their podcast, Sibling Rivalry — Monet said that he had no interest in hearing what Bob had to say about how best to move through the Scottish Highlands castle manned by Alan Cumming.
“Absolutely not,” Monet told DECIDER in an exit interview. “Bob tried to give me advice, I was like, ‘No, you’re a loser, I don’t want advice from you.’ And again, I lost, too.”

Part of the reason Monet says he didn’t need Bob’s advice before flying overseas? It all has to do with their level of preparedness and how much of The Traitors they each had seen before packing their bags and meeting up with the other players.
“I’ve been watching Traitors since Season 1, I was watching Traitors when they were half civilians, half celebrities,” Monet explained. “I was really a student of the game, so I wanted to play my own game. And I think I was doing a really good job, but I made a fatal mistake.”
As for whether or not he learned from that mistake and who from RuPaul’s should get the chance to play the game next, keep reading for DECIDER’s full interview with Monet.
DECIDER: I talked with Rob Cesternino last week, and he said that getting rid of Michael [Rapaport] would be “addition by subtraction.” It sounds like the other Faithfuls were feeling that same way. Do you think that the Faithfuls are now going to get back on track?
MONET X CHANGE: I just want to say to the Faithfuls, I told you so, literally from Episode 2. I sat and I said, “Michael, I don’t know if you’re a good Faithful or I don’t know if you’re a Traitor, but you are a bad Faithful and you have to go.” I was all about getting Michael out when Ron [Funches] brought up the information that he heard cautiously of this thing. And then literally seconds later, Michael said, “When we killed Ian.” I was like, guys, listen, we. Ron said what he heard, no one can corroborate that. But 23 of us in this room can corroborate that Michael just said “when we killed Ian.” So let’s get rid of him. And everyone’s like, “No.” And now, the chickens are coming home to roost.
Before we move on, having watched it now with the moment with Colton [and Michael] at the roundtable, what do you seem to make of that?
I think if we’re being real, we all come into this world and function with implicit biases. That is just what it is. And I think that, although it was a disgusting, awful thing to say, at least Michael didn’t shield behind, “Oh, I’m sending Colton home because his eyes are blue and he eats Snickers.” He’s like, “No, I’m sending him home because of this thing.” So at least he said it with his chest and he didn’t hide behind something, so I give him a modicum of credit for that. But I think that in strategy games, and just how we all function in the world, these are things that exist, and we’re seeing it in 4K, in real life, in living color. So I’m happy that people are having the conversation about it. And we can use Michael as a catalyst to have that conversation.
Let’s go back to the beginning, obviously, your sister, Bob the Drag Queen, was on last season, did you get any advice from Bob coming into the game?
Absolutely not, Bob tried to give me advice. I was like, “No, you’re a loser, I don’t want advice from you.” And again, I lost, too. Bob played the game very much as his personality, which is guns to the wall, blazing loud and talking, that’s Bob. I’m a big fan of strategy games, and I tried to give him pointers when he was going into the show, I was like, “Girl, when you go in, do X-Y-Z,” because I don’t think he’d watched it that much, I think he had watched a few episodes before he left, but he wasn’t like a student of the game. I’ve been watching Traitors since Season 1, I was watching Traitors when they were OG, and they were half civilians, half celebrities. I watch all the UK seasons. I’m not watching New Zealand; they’re literally at an Airbnb, I’m not watching that. But I was really a student of the game, so I wanted to play my own game. And I think I was doing a really good job, but I made a fatal mistake.
I think other students of the game are taking note of your fatal mistake, telling only Candiace [Dillard Bassett] about your suspicion of Lisa [Rinna]. What lesson did you take from that?
You hit the nail on the head because when he was talking about it in the turret, her first question was, “Did anyone else hear?” Saying it to one person is a little tricky. But it’s like a double-edged sword because if you say it to too many people and the Traitors are there, they’re like, “Well, we’ve got to get them, anyway,” or they’ll find other ways to do it. I think that it’s really hard to play Traitors because you just never know. The truth of the matter is, I just really trusted Candiace. I really trusted her, I thought that she was an ally. There were four people I really trusted: Natalie [Anderson], Colton [Underwood], Candiace and Rob C, but he was already gone.
Finding out then that you were right about Lisa, but then also that Candiace and Rob [Rausch], what was your reaction?
I was shocked. Lisa? Not so much. But let me say that Rob was so quiet. Rob was so quiet. I was like, “Was he homeschooled or he is just…” I don’t know what Rob is. But he was like that from the moment we started, nothing changed after Alan chose Traitors, I just thought like this is just a personality and I have never watched Love Island. But after coming back home, I was reading up on his lore and I was like, “Oh my God, this dude — I was lying in a room next door to, he’s like this snake in the grass.” I was like, we should have known. He literally came in with snake tattoos adorned all over his body. We should have known that he was going to be a snake, but I think he was just charming everyone with those little green eyes of his.

Who do you think right now is playing the best game on your team, and who do you hope to see most at the final ceremony?
I think Natalie [Anderson] is playing a good game. I think Natalie does a good balance of bringing people’s names up, but she says it’s around multiple people, and she’s strong in the missions. She’s great. So I think Natalie’s playing the best games.
If you got to go back in again, who would you hope to not see from your season? Like if you were like, I, if that person’s there, I’m in trouble.
RuPaul knew this about me, and Alan knows this about me, too. I’m a comeback queen. We all know as the All Stars winner, I do better the second time around. So when I go back to the castle and win, I do not want to see Lisa, I don’t want to see Candiace. I am now an avid Housewives hunter. Whenever I watch this show going forward. I’m all about taking the Housewives out. Kill the Housewives, get them out of there. I don’t care if they’re Faithfuls or Traitors, they have to go. And if a Housewife is in the turret with me, they’re going home.
Well, you mentioned RuPaul. Who do you think should be next to play this game?
I would love to see Bianca Del Rio in the castle. I think Bianca would be a great addition to the castle. And let’s go to the judges’ panel, we need to get Ts Madison and Michelle Visage. Madison and Michelle and Bianca Del Rio. Please get them in the turret.
Thanks so much for chatting with me. I can’t wait for your comeback tour whenever Traitors does an all-star season.
I’m doing my High Heels, Bad Knees tour, so after this tour, I’m ready. And in this tour, I’m heavy on the Lisa and Candiace jokes. There will be many Lisa and Candiace jokes.
