‘Sinners’ Scores 16 Nominations And Breaks Oscar Record

Warner Bros made the Oscar history books with the just-revealed nominations for the 98th Annual Academy Awards.

Sinners with a whopping 16 just set the all-time record for nominations. It is up for Picture, Actor Michael B. Jordan, Supporting Actress Wunmi Mosaku, Supporting Actor Delroy Lindo, Director and Original Screenplay for Ryan Coogler, Music Score, Song “I Lied To You”, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Sound , Editing, Makeup & Hair, Casting, and Visual Effects.

The previous record of 14 nominations was shared by three films, the first to do it was 1950’s All About Eve , a record it held at the Academy for 47 years until 1997’s Titanic tied it with 14 as well (it missed for its Screenplay or it would have broken the record). It took another 19 years until In 2016 La La Land joined the pair also with 14 nominations. Both All About Eve with 6 wins and Titanic with 11 went on to win Best Picture. Famously so did La La Land —for about a minute and 45 seconds – until the correct envelope was awkwardly revealed on stage and Moonlight, not La La Land was announced as the winner. La La Land did take 6 Oscars, but still stands in the record books as the most nominated movie not to win Best Picture.
