‘One Team in Glasgow’: Charles Wessler Producing Partick Thistle Doc

Oscar-winning Green Book producer Charles B. Wessler has scored his next project and it’s a bit of a surprise.

Wessler is EPing a Scottish documentary about soccer team Partick Thistle, which will land on STV later this month.

One Team in Glasgow, which is directed by three-time Emmy nominee Sam Neave, provides no holds barred access to this small but mighty soccer club, which has a surprisingly large following in the States. Partick Thistle is based in the city of Glasgow, which is home to the two titans of Scottish football, Rangers and Celtic. The doc will show how this soccer club has stood the test of time as a welcoming, community-driven alternative. Filmed behind-the-scenes from the dressing rooms to the board rooms, between the pubs and the terraces, it is a four-part rollercoaster journey of Partick’s latest season.

Best known for his collaborations with the Farrelly brothers, Wessler’s credits include Green Book, Dumb and Dumber, and Me, Myself & Irene. With One Team in Glasgow, he is tapping into a sub-genre of doc that has taken off lately. Welcome to Wrexham, which follows Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s shepherding of Welsh club Wrexham AFC, has been a hit around the world for Disney+.

“The experience of making this show has been one of the highlights of my career and I’m so excited to be able to share it with the world,” said Neave. “We captured something that I hope will speak not only to football fans but to anyone who’s ever cared about something a bit too much.”

One Team in Glasgow is produced by Nest Productions Scotland. “Sam and the team have created something that goes far beyond football and we’re incredibly proud to have produced it from our Glasgow base,” said MD Derek Drennan.
