- George Russell retired despite starting strongly in Montreal
- Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri completed the podium
Kimi Antonelli continued his stunning rookie campaign by winning the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday, claiming a fourth consecutive Formula One victory after Mercedes teammate George Russell retired with mechanical problems.
Antonelli delivered another composed performance at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to strengthen his lead in the drivers’ championship and continue Mercedes’ impressive recent run of form.
Russell‘s race ended early after Mercedes encountered a technical issue, denying the British driver the opportunity to challenge for victory after showing strong pace throughout the weekend.
Speaking after the race, Antonelli praised the team following another successful weekend. According to Reuters, Antonelli said, “Everything worked perfectly today.”

Lewis Hamilton produced one of Ferrari’s strongest performances of the season, fighting through the field and maintaining a competitive pace throughout the race, finishing P2.
Hamilton’s result offered encouragement for Ferrari after a difficult stretch in recent races, with the seven-time world champion looking increasingly comfortable with the team’s upgraded package in Montreal. Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc also scored points, although the team again lacked the outright pace to challenge Antonelli for victory.
Meanwhile, four-time world champion Max Verstappen was unable to mount a serious challenge at the front as Red Bull struggled to match Mercedes over race distance, and he rounded out the podium at P3.
Russell admitted frustration after retiring from a race where Mercedes had appeared highly competitive. According to Reuters, Russell said, “It’s tough to accept when the car had the pace.”
Mercedes introduced major upgrades in Canada and the package again proved effective despite Russell’s retirement, with Antonelli comfortably converting the pace advantage into another victory.
Formula One now heads back to Europe with Antonelli firmly established as the championship favorite after four straight wins.
