Daniel Suárez wins dramatic rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600
- The race ended 27 laps early because of rain
- Suárez used a late two-tyre strategy gamble to take the lead
- Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin completed the podium
Daniel Suárez earned an emotional victory in the 67th running of the Coca-Cola 600 after rain ended NASCAR’s longest race 27 laps early at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday night.
Driving the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, Suárez secured the third NASCAR Cup Series victory of his career and his first crown-jewel triumph after a bold late-race strategy call helped him take control of the race.
Crew chief Ryan Sparks made an aggressive two-tyre pit call late in the race, allowing Suárez to gain critical track position ahead of a series of restarts before rain arrived at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The race was officially called on lap 373 of the scheduled 400 laps after heavy rain made conditions unsafe.
Suárez held off the Joe Gibbs Racing pair of Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin before the caution for weather ultimately sealed the win. Bell finished second while Hamlin completed the podium in third place.

Tyler Reddick finished fourth after leading a race-high 119 laps, while Kyle Larson completed the top five. Suárez led only 17 laps during the race, but his defensive driving on worn tyres during the closing restarts proved decisive.
Speaking after the race, an emotional Suárez dedicated the victory to the late Kyle Busch, who had played a major role in helping launch his NASCAR career through Kyle Busch Motorsports. According to Motorsport.com, Suárez said:
“This win is for him… If it wasn’t for Kyle, I wasn’t going to be an Xfinity champion.”
The victory ended an 82-race winless streak for Suárez and marked the first win for the No. 7 car in a NASCAR Cup Series race since Geoff Bodine in 1996.
The race also featured strong performances from several playoff contenders. Ty Gibbs finished sixth, followed by Ryan Blaney in seventh and Joey Logano in eighth. Larson won Stage 1, Hamlin captured Stage 2 and Bell took Stage 3 honors during a race that saw multiple strategy shifts and cautions throughout the evening. A total of 31 of the 39 starters finished the race, while eight drivers recorded DNFs, including defending race winner Ross Chastain.
The Coca-Cola 600 remains one of NASCAR’s most prestigious races because of its physical demands and 600-mile distance, making Suárez’s breakthrough victory one of the biggest moments of his career.
