Serving as a Principal Full Stack Engineer, Nagraj led a redesign of Fid.com’s entry experience, replacing a rigid redirect structure with a real-time, identity-aware system that presents each user with a tailored dashboard the moment they arrive. The change touched millions of workplace investors each year and produced measurable gains, including a sharp rise in engagement and a double-digit increase in customer impact metrics.

Her work sits at a demanding intersection where user experience, distributed systems, and regulatory rules collide. Financial platforms rarely change quickly, yet Nagraj pushed forward a model where compliance operates quietly within the system instead of interrupting it. “People expect financial information to appear clearly and quickly,” she said. “When systems ignore context, they create friction. Turning Entry Points Into Decision Systems
Fidelity’s platform connects brokerage accounts, retirement plans, and workplace benefits, each historically housed in separate environments. Earlier systems relied on hard-coded routing. Users with multiple accounts were often pushed into a single path regardless of their needs.

Nagraj replaced that logic with a decision engine that evaluates identity, eligibility, and account relationships in real time. The system reads context at login and determines what a user should see first. Instead of navigating across portals, customers encounter a unified view built from multiple underlying systems.

The impact extended well past convenience. Internal data showed engagement rising by roughly seventy-five percent, alongside a significant lift in customer satisfaction indicators. What once required multiple clicks and guesswork became a direct path to relevant financial information.
Regulatory demands added another layer of difficulty. Financial systems must track permissions, enforce eligibility, and maintain audit trails. Nagraj addressed this through architecture that embeds compliance checks into the workflow itself. Workplace participants seeking retirement planning assistance previously had to rely on fragmented channels, including call centers, advisor referrals, and separate scheduling systems. This created friction in accessing financial guidance and reduced participant engagement with retirement planning services.

As Senior Full Stack Engineer, Nagraj led the architecture and engineering implementation of the Ways to Connect platform, a large-scale digital advisor engagement system developed within Fidelity’s NetBenefits workplace investing ecosystem. The platform enables millions of retirement plan participants to connect with financial advisors through personalized digital channels, including direct advisor phone consultations, one-on-one financial planning appointments, educational financial wellness workshops, and guided retirement planning sessions.

At the core of the platform is a context-driven routing engine that dynamically determines which advisory services are available to each participant based on workplace plan eligibility rules, account relationships, financial wellness program enrollment, and advisory program participation. Nagraj designed this orchestration layer to integrate enterprise systems including the Person-in-Context (PICO) service for participant identity, participant advice services for program eligibility, entitlements APIs for plan-level validation, and personalized participant messaging via PZN tagging.

The platform automatically routes participants to the correct advisor scheduling system without requiring manual program selection, connecting users to Workplace Planning and Advice advisors, TEM advisory programs, and financial wellness specialists. Security architecture enforces role-based access controls, plan-specific eligibility, and identity propagation across all services, ensuring compliance with workplace plan governance and fiduciary standards.

Performance engineering targeted sub-2-second service response times, down from the prior 3 to 4 second baseline, while maintaining high availability across retirement enrollment periods. The result reduced friction in advisor scheduling from a primarily phone-based process to a unified digital experience, significantly increasing participant engagement with financial planning services and cutting reliance on call-center scheduling. NetBenefits serves more than 40 million workplace participants nationally, giving the platform broad reach across the U.S. retirement ecosystem.

Retirement Distribution Decision Support
Her most complex assignment focused on retirement distributions. When employees leave a company, they face decisions involving large sums of money. Older processes relied heavily on human agents, with about ninety percent of transactions requiring assistance. Nagraj guided the creation of a structured decision-support system that walks users through options, eligibility, and next steps.

That system now supports decisions tied to hundreds of billions of dollars in retirement assets. Digital adoption increased, while reliance on call centers dropped. What once demanded direct human intervention shifted into guided workflows that maintain accuracy and clarity.

Trusted Contact Management Platform
Regulatory compliance also shaped Nagraj’s work on the Trusted Contact Management Platform, a digital financial security feature built within Fidelity’s retail investment ecosystem. Developed to meet FINRA Rule 4512, which requires financial institutions to make a reasonable effort to obtain trusted contact information for each customer account, the platform enables customers to designate up to two trusted individuals who may be contacted by Fidelity under limited circumstances involving suspected financial exploitation, health concerns, or inability to reach the account holder.

Trusted contacts hold no authority over a customer’s account and cannot conduct transactions, manage investments, or access financial information. They function as a protective safeguard, reachable by Fidelity associates only when indicators of financial exploitation, cognitive impairment concerns, or potential fraud activity arise.

As Principal Full Stack Engineer, Nagraj designed the trusted contact data validation architecture, implemented a serverless Lambda validation service, and integrated OAuth authentication with account services and a rule-engine-based validation workflow backed by DynamoDB rule repositories. The distributed service architecture handles approximately 14,800 trusted contact requests annually, a workload that previously required manual processing by roughly 1.5 full-time employees at a rate of about seven items per hour. Automation through the platform shifted that work directly to customers through secure digital channels, reducing operational overhead while strengthening regulatory compliance across millions of retail accounts.

Building Systems That Learn From Context
Nagraj’s methods rest on a clear principle. Financial platforms should respond to the individual, not force the individual to adapt to the system. Her identity-aware routing architecture replaces static rules with real-time evaluation. A unified data layer gathers information from multiple sources and presents it as a single, consistent view.

A priority-based messaging engine filters communications based on relevance and regulatory constraints. Advisory systems connect users to the right services without requiring manual navigation. Decision-support workflows guide complex financial actions step by step.

Academic work complements her engineering efforts. Nagraj has authored more than fifteen research papers on topics including cloud systems and data engineering.
