Anonymous Content Signs ‘Hunting Matthew Nichols’s Markian Tarasiuk
EXCLUSIVE: Anonymous Content has signed filmmaker Markian Tarasiuk for representation following the breakout success of his feature directorial debut, Hunting Matthew Nichols.
Tarasiuk directed, starred, and has a story by credit on the mockdoc found-footage horror film, which received multiple festival awards and widespread critical recognition. Produced on a reported $275k budget, Hunting Matthew Nichols generated online buzz through an immersive, true-crime-inspired marketing campaign that helped the film turn a profit ahead of its release.
Tarasiuk bypassed the traditional distribution model entirely, securing theatrical exhibition directly with theater chains without partnering with a distributor. The film played on over 900 screens domestically.
His contributions to Hunting Matthew Nichols extended beyond filmmaking, serving as the creative force behind the film’s distribution strategy and marketing campaign. He conceived, developed, and led the project’s immersive Alternate Reality Game experience, building a fictional online interactive ecosystem that transformed audiences from passive viewers into active participants in the mystery. The campaign generated more than 30 million impressions across digital platforms.
In Hunting Matthew Nichols, two decades after her brother and his friend mysteriously disappeared, Tara Nichols, a documentary filmmaker, sets out to solve their missing persons case. When an unsettling piece of evidence is revealed, Tara and her crew investigate the disturbing circumstances surrounding the case and attempt to uncover the truth about her brother’s disappearance.
Tarasiuk is currently developing a sequel to the hit indie title as he continues to build toward larger-scale commercial studio filmmaking.
Prior to his work behind the camera, Tarasiuk built a successful acting career with credits across TV and film, such as the CW’s Supernatural, Netflix’s Virgin River, Surface, and The Night Agent, and Hallmark’s True Justice.
