An NFL legend’s son is becoming one of the young stars at the World Cup

It was an eventful Day 9 at the World Cup, with the United States of America not only confirming their place in the Round of 32 but winning Group D, setting them for a July 1 matchup in the Bay Area.

While there were some well-known players that starred on Friday, a 21-year-old from the States is continuing to make his case as one of the best young players this tournament with another phenomenal performance against Australia.

And he’s a son of an NFL legend.

Bronze Star: Matheus Cunha (Brazil)

After not starting in the first game for Brazil, Manchester United star Cunha made sure that he is not left on the pine for the rest of the tournament. It wasn’t the best start for Brazil against a pressing and combative Haiti side, but Cunha calmed things down with a clinical finish before scoring a second not too long after. Brazil needs a secondary attacking force next to Vinícius Júnior (who also scored), and Cunha is making it clear that he’s that player for Carlo Ancelotti.

Silver Star: Alex Freeman (USA)

The son of Super Bowl champion wide receiver Antonio Freeman, Alex Freeman might be the revelation of the entire World Cup for the United States. Only 21, the young Freeman wasn’t on anyone’s radar two years ago, but has rapidly progressed in his career, shooting through the MLS into being an important player on Villarreal. Following a strong opener against Paraguay, he scored against Australia and was a constant presence on the field on both sides of the ball. While the defense was supposed to be the weakness of this American team, Freeman is helping turn it into a strength.

Gold Star: Orlando Gill (Paraguay)

Paraguay had 22% possession against Turkey.

Paraguay only completed 95 passes in 98 minutes of play.

Paraguay was down to 10 men for the entirety of the second half.

Orlando Gill didn’t have to make incredible save after incredible save due to Turkey’s misfires on net, but he was there when needed to block anything that came his way. In a situation where it would have been easy to give up or complain, Gill was the foundation that never wavered for Paraguay. He jumped, flopped, rolled, dove, and did a little bit of everything to keep Turkey from scoring.
