Red Wings GM reveals where things stand after Dylan Larkin trade request

The 206 NHL draft came and went and Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin is still on the roster.

The 29-year-old center requested a tread weeks before the draft, and many expected the Red Wings to field offers for the six-time 30-goal scorer and possibly move him for a bounty of draft picks.

However, no deal was made and Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman spoke to reporters on Saturday about where the team stands with Larkin knowing he wants out of Detroit.

“Shortly after the season, I received a phone call from Dylan Larkin’s agent, informing me that Dylan would like to be traded,” Yzerman said, via NHL.com. “A week or so after that, Dylan’s agent followed up with a short list of teams that Dylan would consider waiving his no-trade (clause) to go to.

“… My job as the manager of the Detroit Red Wings is always to do what is in the best interest of the Detroit Red Wings, and I will act accordingly to that. I cannot make any guarantees, or did not make any guarantees, that that request could or would be met.”

If the Red Wings do trade Larkin, many expect the team to get back a king’s ransom that includes one or more first-round picks plus a roster player and at least a B-level prospect.

Based on what some top players fetched during the 2026 draft — eight players were traded for first-round picks and four of them fetched multiple first-rounders — Detroit could land a haul for Larkin if and when he’s traded.

Below is a list of players who were dealt for first-round picks during the 2026 draft.

• Brady Tkachuk was traded from the Ottawa Senators to the Panthers for a 2026 first-rounder (No. 25 overall), a 2029 first-rounder, and a 2027 second-rounder
• Pavel Dorofeyev was traded from the Vegas Golden Knights to the New York Rangers for a 2026 first-rounder (No. 26 overall), a 2026 third-rounder (No. 96 overall), and a 2028 first-rounder
• Mason McTavish was traded from the Anaheim Ducks to the St. Louis Blues for two 2026 first-round picks (No. 15 and 29 overall)
• JJ Peterka was traded from the Utah Mammoth to the Bruins for a 2026 first-rounder (No. 23 overall) and a 2028 first-rounder
• Bowen Byram was traded from the Buffalo Sabres to the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2026 first-rounder (No. 4 overall) and a 2026 second-rounder (No. 45 overall)
• William Eklund was traded from the San Jose Sharks to the Florida Panthers for a 2026 first-rounder (No. 9 overall)
• Jordan Kyrou was traded from the Blues to the Washington Capitals for a 2026 first-rounder (No. 16 overall)
• Sebastian Cossa was traded from the Red Wings to the Boston Bruins for a 2026 first-round pick (No. 23 overall)
