Ten years ago, Dead by Daylight arrived with a simple premise. Four Survivors. One Killer. Escape if you can.

At the time, few could have predicted what Behaviour Interactive’s asymmetrical horror experiment would become. Live-service games rarely survive for a decade. Most lose momentum long before reaching that milestone. Fewer still arrive at their tenth anniversary coming off some of the most successful years in their history.

That reality was impossible to ignore in Montreal.

Thousands of fans traveled from around the world to attend Dead by Daylight’s 10th Anniversary celebration, transforming the city’s historic Old Port into a gathering place for one of gaming’s most passionate communities. The event itself felt less like a traditional press showcase and more like a celebration built entirely around the people who have spent years inside The Fog. Fans lined up for panels, developer discussions, photo opportunities, live entertainment, community art exhibits, and meet-and-greets with the team responsible for shepherding one of horror gaming’s biggest success stories.

As someone who has spent nearly the entire lifespan of Dead by Daylight playing the game, there was something uniquely rewarding about seeing that community gathered in one place. Over the past decade, Dead by Daylight has grown from a promising multiplayer horror title into a cultural hub for the genre itself. Whether players arrived through Halloween, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Alien, Castlevania, Saw, or one of the game’s many original creations, everyone eventually found themselves standing beneath the same Entity-filled sky.

I’ve also had the opportunity to speak with the developers on multiple occasions, including during a memorable interview at GDC where we discussed the challenges of supporting a live-service title at this scale. Seeing the anniversary celebration in person reinforced something I have come to appreciate over the years; Dead by Daylight’s success has never been treated as a finish line. The team continues approaching the game as something that can evolve, experiment, and grow.

That philosophy was evident throughout the anniversary presentation.

Jason Voorhees Finally Joins Dead by Daylight

Fresh off some of the largest releases in the game’s history, Behaviour used the celebration to reveal what may be the most ambitious slate of upcoming content Dead by Daylight has ever seen.

The first major announcement was one that fans have been requesting for years. Jason Voorhees is finally coming to Dead by Daylight.

Following nearly a decade of speculation and requests from the community, the iconic Friday the 13th killer will officially enter The Fog with Dead by Daylight: Jason, which launches June 16 on all platforms. Jason’s arrival feels particularly significant because he represents one of the final pieces of a horror dream roster that once seemed impossible. Over the years, Dead by Daylight has managed to unite horror icons from countless franchises. Jason’s inclusion further solidifies the game as perhaps the largest interactive crossover celebration horror has ever seen. Be sure to check out our review of Jason.

Dead by Daylight: The Life Road Introduces The First Indigenous Survivor

The surprises continued with the reveal of Dead by Daylight: The Life Road, a new Survivor-focused Chapter introducing Shane Wiigwaas, the game’s first Indigenous Survivor.

Scheduled to launch June 25, the chapter represents another meaningful expansion of the game’s original cast while highlighting stories and perspectives not previously represented within the roster. Behavior has gradually broadened the representation found throughout the game over the years, and Shane’s debut feels like another important step in that ongoing evolution. Art The Clown, Chorus of Sin, and The Casting of Frank Stone Expand The Fog

Behaviour also confirmed that modern horror sensation Art the Clown will be entering The Entity’s Realm later this year through Dead by Daylight: Terrifier, planned for release in November.

Given the explosive growth of the Terrifier franchise over the past several years, Art’s inclusion feels like a natural fit. Few modern horror villains have managed to carve out a place alongside genre legends as quickly as Art the Clown, making his arrival one of the most anticipated collaborations announced during the event.

Before that happens, players can look forward to Dead by Daylight: Chorus of Sin in August. The Chapter carries a unique distinction as the first Dead by Daylight release developed entirely in collaboration with the game’s community. It’s the kind of project that only becomes possible after years of trust between developers and players, and it serves as a reminder of how much influence the community continues to have on the game’s future.

Looking even further ahead, Behaviour confirmed that 2027 will bring a Chapter inspired by The Casting of Frank Stone. The adaptation further connects Behaviour’s growing Dead by Daylight universe and demonstrates its desire to expand beyond traditional multiplayer storytelling.

Dead by Daylight’s Massive Visual Overhaul Adds Dynamic Weather

As exciting as those Chapter announcements were, the presentation’s most significant reveals may have involved the future of the game itself.

Behaviour outlined plans for a sweeping visual overhaul currently targeted for 2027. Character models will receive substantial upgrades designed to make them more expressive and lifelike. Enhanced facial animation technology will introduce greater emotional range to both Survivors and Killers, while maps across the game will see improvements to lighting, textures, shading, environmental effects, and atmosphere.

The Fog itself is also evolving.

Developers demonstrated plans for significantly improved visual effects surrounding fog and mist, along with an increased sense of The Entity’s presence throughout the environment. Perhaps most excitingly, Dead by Daylight is finally introducing dynamic weather systems. Future matches will feature conditions ranging from light rainfall to heavy storms, creating dramatically different atmospheres across familiar maps.

For longtime players, that announcement may prove more impactful than it initially sounds. Atmosphere has always been one of Dead by Daylight’s strongest attributes. Dynamic weather has the potential to transform maps many players have spent thousands of hours on, making them feel fresh again without fundamentally changing the gameplay that has defined Dead by Daylight for a decade.

The visual update will also introduce new voice lines for applicable original characters over time, giving many members of the roster greater personality and presence than ever before.

New Dead by Daylight Game Modes and Official Mod Support Revealed

Behaviour’s desire to experiment extends beyond visuals.

The studio offered early details surrounding upcoming game modes, including a dedicated 1v1 experience and a new Zombie Mode. While specifics remain limited, both announcements suggest the developers are increasingly interested in exploring alternative ways to experience Dead by Daylight outside of its traditional four-versus-one structure.

More surprising still was the announcement that Dead by Daylight will officially support sandboxed modding.

Behaviour confirmed it is currently developing a suite of creation tools designed to allow players to build their own maps, modes, and experiences beginning next year. If successful, the initiative could prove transformative. Some of gaming’s longest-lasting communities owe their success to player-created content, and giving Dead by Daylight’s community creative control over portions of the experience could dramatically expand what The Fog can become.

Dead by Daylight Movie Receives Major Update

The anniversary presentation wasn’t limited to the game itself.

Behaviour Interactive Executive Vice President Stephen Mulrooney was joined on stage by Blumhouse Atomic Monster producer Jason Blum to provide an update on the upcoming Dead by Daylight film adaptation.

The team confirmed that a screenplay written by Alexandre Aja and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick has already been completed while also introducing Thordur Palsson as the film’s director.

While story details remain under wraps, the update provided the clearest indication yet that the adaptation is actively moving forward. Given the game’s mythology, interconnected cast of characters, and enduring popularity, Dead by Daylight remains one of the most intriguing video game adaptations currently in development.

Scooby-Doo, Diablo, Silent Hill, The Walking Dead, and More Collections Announced

As expected, cosmetics and collaborations also played a major role during the presentation.

The Black Banquet Collection, tied directly to this year’s anniversary celebration, introduces formal event-themed attire for players participating in festivities running from June 25 through July 16. Meanwhile, the desert-inspired Sunflesh Collection will arrive as part of an upcoming Rift.

Several major licensed collections were also revealed. Iron Maiden’s 50th anniversary will be celebrated with a new Eddie Legendary Outfit for The Huntress. Ice Nine Kills is receiving its own collection after debuting a new Dead by Daylight-inspired song and music video during the event. The Walking Dead Collection continues to expand, adding Glenn and Negan as Legendary Outfits for Rick. Silent Hill fans will gain access to a Cheryl Legendary Outfit that transforms her into Shimizu Hinako from Silent Hill f.

Then came one of the loudest crowd reactions of the entire presentation.

After years of community requests, Scooby-Doo is officially coming to Dead by Daylight.

The collaboration brings one of pop culture’s most beloved mystery-solving franchises into The Fog for the first time. Alongside Scooby-Doo, Behaviour also announced a Diablo Collection arriving in October that will introduce another wave of demonic influences into the game.

Dead by Daylight Anniversary Event Includes 10 Million Free Bloodpoints

For players unable to attend the event in Montreal, Behaviour has made sure the anniversary celebrations extend directly into the game itself.

One of the biggest incentives comes in the form of 10 million free Bloodpoints. For newer players, that amount of progression currency can dramatically accelerate account progression and provide access to perks, prestige levels, and character unlocks that might otherwise require weeks of dedicated play.

For longtime players, it creates opportunities to experiment.

One of the best aspects of large Bloodpoint giveaways is the freedom they provide. Dead by Daylight is at its most interesting when players can test unusual builds, revisit neglected characters, and invest in new strategies without worrying about optimally spending every resource. Ten million Bloodpoints encourages exactly that kind of experimentation.

The celebration also includes increased experience gains, event bonuses, limited-time rewards, anniversary cosmetics, and the Black Banquet festivities running from June 25 through July 16. Historically, anniversary events represent some of the best opportunities for both new and returning players to jump into Dead by Daylight, and this year’s event appears poised to continue that tradition.

Dead by Daylight’s Next 10 Years Look More Ambitious Than Ever

What stayed with me watching the event at Montreal wasn’t necessarily Jason Voorhees, the movie news, dynamic weather, or even Scooby-Doo.

It was seeing thousands of people gather to celebrate a horror game that has somehow remained relevant, ambitious, and growing after ten years.

Many live-service games spend their later years looking backward. Dead by Daylight spent its anniversary looking forward.

After a decade of playing the game myself, that’s perhaps the most impressive achievement of all. The community continues to grow, the developers continue taking risks, and the roadmap ahead feels as ambitious as anything the game has attempted before.
