The Weeknd Rocks Out Lionsgate CinemaCon With Mini-Concert, Jenna Ortega Vamps As Second ‘Hurry About Tomorrow’ Trailer Unveiled
Lionsgate saved the best for last — Jenna Ortega and The Weeknd– to tubthump their May 16 movie Hurry Up Tomorrow from Trey Edward Schults. The Weeknd lit Caesars Collosseum ablaze with a performance of two songs from the movie “Cry for Me” and “Open Hearts” as well as his classic “Blinding Lights.”
Lionsgate Motion Picture Chair Adam Fogelson threw it to the pic’s co-star Jenna Ortega to introduce the Weeknd and vamp ala SNL style. He was too nervous to introduce The Weeknd. The Wednesday actress called out Fogelson, “You’re being really self-deprecating, and I’ve only been out here for five minutes.”
In the trailer, The Weeknd is playing a version of himself — some sort of big performer. Ortega seems to be the girlfriend — and she’s got her own problems living on the fringe. She loves him — it’s clear, she’s teary watching him perform. But, man, is that girl in his head. But he’s also ghosting her with a several missed calls. Pic has a noirish colored look to it.
Shults described working with Able Tesfy aka The Weeknd was “effortless” from the moment they met. “He’s like family,” the director of Hurry Up Tomorrow said as he was joined on stage by Jenna Ortega to introduce a second trailer for thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow leading into an electric live performance.
The movie is “hard to describe … I haven’t seen a movie quiet like it. It’s very soulful.”
“It feels more like an experience,” Ortega said, “and when you go into it witht that mentality, it makes sense.”
