Singapore: Child Hospitalized, 25 Residents Evacuated After Fire Breaks Out in Yishun HDB Flat

A child was taken to the hospital, and 25 residents were evacuated after a fire broke out in a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat in Yishun on Friday evening, July 3.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post that it was alerted to the fire at around 5:15 pm. The incident occurred in a unit on the 12th floor of Block 381C Yishun Ring Road.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the living room of the apartment engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished using a water jet, preventing it from spreading further.

Child Rescued From Bedroom

During the firefighting operation, an SCDF team discovered a child inside one of the flat’s bedrooms.

The child was assessed for smoke inhalation before being transported to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for further medical attention. The authorities have not released additional details about the child’s condition.

Meanwhile, 25 residents were evacuated from the building as a precaution while emergency crews brought the situation under control.

Cause of Fire Under Investigation

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are ongoing.

The latest incident comes as residential fires continue to rise in Singapore. According to annual fire statistics, the total number of fires across the country increased by 3 percent from 1,990 cases in 2024 to 2,050 in 2025.

Residential Fires Continue to Rise

Of the total fires recorded last year, 1,051 occurred in residential buildings, representing an 8.6 percent increase from the 968 residential fire cases reported in 2024.

SCDF has identified unattended cooking and electrical fires, including those caused by faulty wiring and overloaded electrical outlets, as the two leading causes of home fires, highlighting the importance of fire safety and vigilance in households.
