Singapore: Teen Cyclist Trapped Under Car After Jurong East Crash, Rescued by Quick-Thinking Bystanders
A 14-year-old cyclist was taken to the hospital after being involved in a collision with a car in Jurong East on Saturday, July 11.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they were informed about the accident along Jurong Gateway Road toward Jurong East Street 13 at around 1:25 pm.
The teenager was taken conscious to the National University Hospital for treatment.
The police said a 48-year-old man who was driving the car is assisting with investigations into the incident.
Viral Video Shows Dramatic Rescue
A video shared on social media captured the dramatic aftermath of the crash, appearing to show the teenage cyclist trapped beneath a black car that had come to a stop in the left-most lane of the road.
Footage posted by Facebook user Toto Momz shows several bystanders rushing to help moments after the accident.
About a dozen members of the public, including elderly pedestrians and motorcyclists, worked together to lift the vehicle from the front, middle, and rear in an effort to free the trapped boy.
One man was seen lying flat on the road and reaching underneath the car before pulling the cyclist to safety. After the teenager was freed, several men carried him to the roadside while others gathered around to render assistance until emergency responders arrived.
Driver Assisting With Investigations
The authorities have not released details on what led to the collision.
The 48-year-old driver is assisting police with their ongoing investigations, and no arrests have been announced.
The incident comes as Singapore continues to see an increase in road accidents resulting in injuries.
According to the Traffic Police’s annual road traffic report released in February, there were 7,560 traffic accidents causing injuries in 2025, compared with 7,053 cases in 2024.
The number of people injured in traffic accidents also increased, rising from 9,342 in 2024 to 9,955 in 2025, underscoring continued concerns over road safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
