Cam Skattebo has blunt message for those criticizing his reckless behavior

The New York Giants presumably knew what they were getting into when they drafted running back Cam Skattebo.

The 24-year-old running back is known for his wild playstyle, and he’s developing a reputation for his reckless behavior off the field as well.

Skattebo found himself at the center of controversy on Saturday after botching a backflip at Fanatics Fest. He landed awkwardly as his feet hit the ground, and some were worried he may have worsened his surgically repaired leg — an injury that ended his season early last year.

Despite everyone coming at him on social media for playing with fire, Skattebo had a message for those criticizing his recent antics.

“I’m going to address the elephant,” Skattebo said on Sunday. “I will not hurt myself before the season. … I’m just going to keep being me, and if they want to say I’m brain-dead, and I don’t have no brain, then who cares, [expletive] it.”

Skattebo’s stunt put him under a microscope after head coach John Harbaugh coyly said he told the RB no backflips during minicamp last month.

Keeping Skattebo healthy is of great importance to the Giants, who have a lot invested in their young offensive core built around Skattebo, quarterback Jaxson Dart, wide receiver Malik Nabers, and tight ends Theo Johnson and Isaiah Likely.

Skattebo’s season was ended after just eight games when he suffered a fractured tibia and ankle dislocation against the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 26.

The Arizona State alum seems to be right on track with his recovery, though the Giants would presumably appreciate it if he didn’t give the any more scares between now and Week 1.
