Jacoby Brissett ends holdout with new Cardinals contract: report
It’s been an icy offseason between the Arizona Cardinals and veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett. The 33-year-old journeyman skipped OTAs in May, but his holdout concluded before the Cardinals’ training camp fully gets underway next week.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport reported Sunday, July 26, that Arizona and Brissett reached an agreement on a reworked contract.
Schefter noted that Brissett was entering the second year of a two-year contract worth $4.88 million in base salary, and Rapoport relayed that the new contract will increase his compensation as a new one-year pact worth $15.5 million guaranteed, though incentives can bump it to $21 million.”
Brissett is still expected to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
“”It’s good,” Cardinals first-year head coach Mike LaFleur said, per ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss. “Happy for him. Happy for our team. It was productive. For it to get done now, sooner than rather than later, it’s good.”
The Cardinals selected former Georgia and Miami quarterback Carson Beck in the third round (No. 65 overall) in the 2026 NFL Draft in late April. Nobody views Beck as Arizona’s surefire Week 1 starter, much less the quarterback of the future, but he should put pressure on Brissett in training camp and the preseason.
Barring injury or immense underperformance, Brissett should be under center when the Cardinals travel to Los Angeles to face the Chargers in Week 1 on Sunday, Sept. 13.
Brissett has built a respectable NFL career off of how reliably he can competently run an offense, as he did for the Cardinals last season. We’ll see how much of that was due to offensive coordinator Drew Petzing, who is in Detroit now, but regardless, Brissett’s job is simple: Be a bridge quarterback and, in all likelihood, put the Cardinals in a favorable position to draft a star in 2027.
