‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ executive producers share an update on castings for Paul Blofis and Rachel Elizabeth Dare ahead of Season 3
Sorry, Percy Jackson and the Olympians fans, you might be waiting a little while to find out who is playing Rachel Elizabeth Dare and Paul Blofis in the Disney+ show.
While it’s long been believed that the third season of the adaptation – which brings Percy Jackson and the Titan’s Curse to the screen for the first time — will introduce the two fan-favorite characters from the third book in the series, according to producers Dan Shotz and Craig Silverstein, they are keeping a few things close to the vest for now.
“There are a couple of announcements that have not been made,” Silverstein told DECIDER in a backstage interview at San Diego Comic-Con, careful not to spill any details about the casting of Percy’s (Walker Scobell) new love interest and his mom’s (Virginia Kull) soon-to-be boyfriend.
“I don’t know if we want to say too much, or exactly how we’re using those characters, but they are important characters to the series as a whole,” Shotz shared, adding that announcements are forthcoming. “There are a couple of significant roles we’re holding back on sharing with people.”
Fans of The Titan’s Curse — the third book in the bestselling Rick Riordan series — know that both characters enter the picture at a pivotal time in Percy’s journey, Rachel meeting the young hero in the bathroom at the Hoover Dam and Paul beginning to cozy up to Sally Jackson while Percy is away. Both characters have significant roles in the later books, which has led some fans to believe that they could be introduced in Season 4, rather than Season 3.
During San Diego Comic-Con, Scobell and Aryan Simhadri also commented on whether or not fans can expect to see Rachel in the upcoming season, which premieres on Disney+ in November.
“Things change sometimes when you do an adaptation, and some things aren’t always in the same spot that you think they would be,” Scobell told DECIDER backstage after the Percy Jackson Hall H panel. “That’s all I’m going to say.”
Fans are just going to have to wait and see if Rachel and Paul Blofis make their debut this season or next, and who exactly will be playing the characters that have fanbases of their own. For now, we’ll all just have to hold out hope that Paul Rudd is still in the negotiating phase to play Sally Jackson’s boyfriend. We can dream, right?
The first two seasons of Percy Jackson and the Olympians are now streaming on Disney+. Season 3 debuts on November 20.
