Jamie Komoroski: South Carolina Drunk Driver Screamed at Cops to Check on Samantha Hutchinson As She Could See Body of Bride after Fatal Crash, Bodycam Shows

Convicted drunk driver Jamie Komoroski requested South Carolina officers to check on the bride she fatally struck after crashing into the golf cart carrying the newlyweds, minutes after their wedding reception, newly released police body camera footage shows.

Komoroski, who was 25 at the time, insisted she “didn’t do anything wrong” as she sat on the roadside after the April 2023 crash in Folly Beach, South Carolina, that killed Samantha Hutchinson, 34, WCSC reported. Komoroski was driving a rented Toyota at 65 mph when she crashed into the back of the golf cart carrying Hutchinson. “Is she okay?” Komoroski asked bystanders about Hutchinson, a clip which the outlet released shows.

Shocking Reaction

Komoroski then shouted, “Go check on her,” as an officer examined the crash scene. Her rental car’s airbags had deployed, and smoke could be seen rising from the vehicle. Officers helped Komoroski to her feet before she screamed and appeared to gesture toward Hutchinson’s body.

“We can get a blanket and cover her up,” one responding officer was heard saying shortly before 10:30 p.m. on April 28, as Komoroski was escorted away from the scene.

Body camera footage released by Folly Beach police also shows Komoroski becoming uncooperative after regaining her composure.

Investigators said Komoroski, who had spent about an hour drinking at bars before the crash, initially denied having consumed alcohol. She later admitted to drinking a beer and a tequila pineapple cocktail.

“On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most impaired and intoxicated you’ve ever been in your entire life, and 1 being completely sober, where would you rate yourself right now?” an officer asked at 10:56 p.m.

“I would like a lawyer right now, honestly,” Komoroski replied.

Was Not in Her Senses

She also asked to call her father, but the officer denied the request and repeatedly instructed her to keep her feet inside the patrol car. After being taken to the police station, Komoroski continued to complain.

“I just, like, want to get it over with and go home,” she said.

She also asked an officer if she could call her father and insisted, “Nobody has any proof of anything I did.”

The officer told Komoroski that she was not entitled to a phone call while being held in protective custody and denied her request. “You’re a grown adult and you’re crying on camera,” one officer said, prompting an emotional response from Komoroski.

“Yeah, hello, I’m crying because he’s not letting me call my f–king father even though they haven’t proven s–t,” she replied, her words slurred.

She then added, “I’m just being a little baby,” before mocking the officer by imitating him as he repeatedly told her to “stop.”

Komoroski claimed she had a right to make a phone call while in custody, although such a right is not guaranteed by the Constitution. She also refused to provide a breath sample, telling officers they needed to “prove” the DUI allegations against her.

“I don’t have to prove anything,” she said.

Later, Komoroski was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.261%, which was more than three times South Carolina’s legal limit of 0.08%.

She was sentenced to 25 years in prison in December 2024 after pleading guilty to charges of reckless homicide and driving under the influence.
