Panthers sign veteran QB after injury to Hall of Fame Game star
The Carolina Panthers are expected to sign veteran quarterback Kyle Trask, according to The Charlotte Observer’s Mike Kaye.
Haynes King injured his hamstring amid an electrifying performance against the Arizona Cardinals in the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, which necessitates the addition of another third-string option to take training camp snaps behind Bryce Young and Kenny Pickett.
King is considered week-to-week as a result of the injury, according to Joseph Person of The Athletic.
Trask has some familiarity with the system, having played for head coach Dave Canales during his tenure as offensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Panthers will almost certainly try to figure out a way to continue working with King, who finished 21-of-34 for 180 passing yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 39 yards on three carries and scoring the game-winning touchdown while time expired at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
“I’m very excited I got this opportunity. I feel like I went out there and operated at a high level,” King said following the victory on Thursday. “I feel like I affected a lot of people and allowed everybody around me to play better, as well.”
Carolina’s final exhibition game is against the Houston Texans on Aug. 28.
