Apparent sex toy thrown onto court during another WNBA game — and alleged hurler caught fleeing
Another WNBA game was momentarily interrupted by an apparent green sex toy being thrown onto the court Thursday night when the Sparks host the Dream.
The alleged culprit was apprehended, according to The Athletic, and this incident comes a little more than one year after the league dealt with several similar situations.
With 2:59 left in the third quarter of Atlanta’s 124-88 win and Los Angeles’ Jihyun Park at the free-throw line, a green object landed in her vicinity and bounced past the forward.
Park immediately looked in the direction the object came from, while one referee blew her whistle before pointing toward the object.
One television broadcast captured Dream star Angel Reese pointing straight ahead and seemingly saying, “Get him, right there.”
“Something was thrown onto the court,” the broadcaster said, “and security has made quick work of this.”
It appeared that someone threw a towel over the supposed sex toy before Sparks forward Cameron Brink kicked it toward the out-of-bounds line.
An apparent security staffer ultimately took the towel and the object off the court.
One California-based reporter posted a video of the alleged perpetrator fleeing the scene, with the man — wearing a home Lakers No. 77 Luka Doncic jersey — even bumping into a security guard while he exited.
Said security guard and other staffers at Crypto.com Arena trailed in his direction before the five-second video concluded.
The league dealt with a rash of similar incidents last summer spanning multiple games, with one fan being arrested for his actions at a Dream home game.
A Crypto group claimed to have orchestrated the stunts.
The WNBA said last August that any fan caught throwing objects onto the court faced stiff penalties, and plenty within the league condemned those interrupting games in said manner.
“The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans,” the league said last August. “In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.”
