Lee Soo-hyuk Exits ‘Men of the Harem’ Mid-Production as Fans Question His Sudden Departure

Lee Soo-hyuk has reportedly withdrawn from the upcoming romance-fantasy series Men of the Harem while production is already underway, leaving fans surprised by the unexpected casting change.

According to reports, the actor’s agency, Saram Entertainment, confirmed that Lee Soo-hyuk will no longer appear in the series due to scheduling issues. The sudden departure has sparked considerable discussion online, particularly because the project had already generated interest among fans of the original web novel and its star-studded cast.

Lee Soo-hyuk had reportedly been considered for one of the male consort roles in the series, making his exit a notable change to the production.

Fans React to the Unexpected Exit

News of the actor’s departure quickly prompted reactions from viewers online. Some fans expressed disappointment at losing the chance to see Lee Soo-hyuk in the fantasy romance, while others questioned what scheduling conflict could have led him to leave the project during production.

One fan wrote on X, “This man stays jobless 24/7. He’s nowhere to be found in sponsored ads, variety shows, brand events, fan meetings, lead roles, cameos. No one sends him food trucks either. so I’m genuinely curious what kind of busy schedule did he have that made him turn down this offer?”

The reaction reflects the surprise surrounding the actor’s withdrawal rather than confirming details about his actual schedule.

Men of the Harem is based on a popular novel of the same name and is set in a fictional world filled with romance, political intrigue and palace rivalries.

The story follows Latil, the empress of the Tarium Empire, as she navigates the complicated relationships among her five royal consorts. The men compete for her affection while becoming entangled in the political tensions surrounding the empire.

The series is being directed by Lee Eung-bok, whose previous credits include Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, Descendants of the Sun, Sunshine and Sweet Home.

The project is expected to feature a high-profile ensemble cast, including Suzy, Shin Seung-ho, Dex, Kim Dan and Yoo Jung-hoo.

Lee Jong-won Reportedly Being Considered

With Lee Soo-hyuk no longer attached to the project, attention has now shifted to his potential replacement.

Actor Lee Jong-won is reportedly being considered for the role, although no casting decision has been officially confirmed. An official from Lee Jong-won’s agency, The Black Label, told Hankook Ilbo, “Lee Jong-won has received an offer to appear in Men of the Harem and is currently in discussions.”

The production was originally expected to premiere next year, although Lee Soo-hyuk’s departure could potentially affect the schedule. For now, viewers will have to wait for an official announcement regarding his replacement and whether the series’ release plans will change.
