Green Lantern Corps’ light is shining bright in the DC Universe.
After all, HBO Max’s new series Lanterns is bringing the intergalactic police force to the small screen as veteran Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) trains new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) while investigating an extraterrestrial incident in rural Nebraska.
The show—which premiered Aug. 16, with weekly releases until Oct. 4—is the latest addition to DC Comics’ reset, Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, which also includes movies Superman, Supergirl and Clayface. As each project adds a new layer to the DCU, co-CEO James Gunn revealed that the latest series is casting a green spotlight on the franchise’s future.
“Those things are worked in,” he told Rolling Stone last October, also pointing to Supergirl. “We knew both of those stories were a part of what we originally put together, so they’re part of the overall tapestry, but they’re also their own thing.”
