Jed York: San Francisco 49ers Owner and CEO Arrested in Ohio in Prostitution Bust, Just Days Ahead of Start of NFL Season

The San Francisco 49ers co-owner Jed York was reportedly arrested on suspicion of soliciting prostitution, just weeks ahead of the start of the NFL season. York, 46, was arrested on Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, and booked into the Columbiana County Jail, according to Kron4 News.

York, whose legal name is John Edward York, reportedly entered a no-contest plea on Monday after authorities in Ohio reduced the original prostitution-related charge to disorderly conduct. The Niners CEO was also found guilty of a misdemeanor charge for possessing criminal tools. A judge sentenced York to one day in jail for each charge, with the sentences to be served at the same time.

Exposed Ahead of NFL Season

He was also fined $150 for the disorderly conduct conviction and another $1,000 for the criminal tools charge. York is the son of 49ers co-chairs Denise DeBartolo York and John York. He became the team’s CEO in 2008.

During York’s time running the franchise, the 49ers have enjoyed major success, winning five NFC West titles, reaching seven NFC Championship Games and making three Super Bowl appearances.

York has been married to Danielle Belluomini since 2011, and they have two sons, Jaxon and Brixton.

His younger brother, Anthony, died in December 2018 at age 35.

The arrest adds to a difficult offseason for the 49ers, who are once again expected to contend for a playoff berth. San Francisco is scheduled to open the season against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne on September 10.

Several Challenges for 49ers

Head coach Kyle Shanahan has also endured a troubling offseason after a serious car crash left him sidelined from training camp with multiple injuries. The July 14 crash has raised questions after police declined to release an accident report or bodycam footage.

Officers initially put the blame on the other driver, but Shanahan later accepted responsibility.

He crashed with a car driven by a 21-year-old woman in Palo Alto last month and said the crash occurred when he reached for his phone.

The crash left Shanahan with a concussion, broken ribs, a broken nose and a fractured hand, along with more than 40 stitches needed to close a cut above his eye.

He later said he was traveling at around 20 mph with his Tesla’s Autopilot engaged when the collision occurred.

Tesla’s Autopilot system is designed to match a vehicle’s speed with surrounding traffic, assist with steering within clearly marked lanes and use traffic-aware cruise control.

Shanahan was the only person involved in the crash who required hospitalization, and police did not issue him a ticket for using his cellphone.
