TWICE’s Nayeon Buys $6.9M Building in Seoul’s Cheongdam-Dong: Here’s What Makes the Property Valuable
TWICE member Nayeon has reportedly expanded her real estate portfolio with a major purchase in one of Seoul’s most prestigious neighborhoods. The singer has acquired a building and its surrounding land in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, for 9.5 billion KRW (approximately $6.9 million).
The purchase makes Nayeon the owner of a commercial property in an area known for luxury residences, entertainment companies, galleries and high-end fashion businesses.
According to South Korean real estate industry sources and property registration records, Nayeon signed the purchase agreement on May 3 for the Cheongdam-dong property.
A mortgage with a maximum secured amount of 10.2 billion KRW (approximately $7.3 million) was registered on the property. Nayeon officially completed the ownership transfer on August 24.
The property consists of one basement level and two floors above ground, with a total floor area of 218.87 square meters (approximately 2,356 square feet).
Why Does the Cheongdam Location Matters?
The building was expanded in 2010, while its designated use was recently changed from a combination of residential and neighborhood commercial facilities to entirely neighborhood commercial use.
Another feature that could make the property attractive is its location on a corner lot bordering two roads. Real estate experts consider such properties advantageous because of their accessibility and potential for different forms of commercial use.
The surrounding Cheongdam area is one of Gangnam’s most sought-after districts, with luxury homes located alongside entertainment agencies, galleries, fashion businesses and luxury brands.
Potential Redevelopment Could Be a Factor
Real estate industry observers believe Nayeon’s decision may not necessarily be focused on generating rental income from the building in its current form.
Instead, the value of the land and its location could be a significant factor behind the purchase. The property’s position could potentially make it suitable for future redevelopment or new construction, increasing its long-term value.
As soon as the news of Nayeon’s new property purchase became public, the idol came under heavy public scrutiny for having made the purchase with a bank loan. Many netizens complained that she received an unfair advantage over the struggling ordinary population of the country.
One user wrote, “Looks like loan regulations need to be tweaked again; newlywed couples are in a real bind because they can’t get loans,” while another commented, “A collateral mortgage of 10.2 billion won was registered on the property. Nayeon must have plenty of money, yet she bought it using the maximum possible loan…”
“If this had happened back when they were the undisputed number one in the country, the comments would’ve easily topped a thousand. Reactions have definitely softened, huh? Haha… It’s the ordinary people who really suffer in the end,” shared a third one.
Nayeon Already Owns Luxury Real Estate?
This is not Nayeon’s first major property investment in Seoul. In 2024, the TWICE singer was reportedly revealed to have purchased a luxury residence at Brighten N40 in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam, for approximately 3.9 billion KRW (around $2.8 million).
Born in 1995, the 30-year-old K-pop star has now added another multimillion-dollar property to her portfolio, further drawing attention to the growing real estate investments of some of South Korea’s biggest entertainment stars.
