Paul LeDuc, a foundational figure in Canadian professional wrestling best known as one half of the LeDuc Brothers tag team, died on the morning of Aug. 30 at age 89, according to tributes from wrestling historians and organizations across the industry.
LeDuc was born Nov. 10, 1936, in Mont-Louis, Quebec, and began wrestling professionally in 1957 at just 18 years old. He trained first in Montreal before continuing his education in Mexico, laying the groundwork for a career that would stretch across five decades and multiple countries.
News of his death was shared by wrestling historian Pat Laprade, who wrote on X that Leduc had passed away that morning, calling him one of the two famous LeDuc brothers and noting his run as a Grand Prix Wrestling tag team champion. Organizations including the Cauliflower Alley Club also paid tribute, calling him a respected and enduring figure in Quebec professional wrestling whose contributions spanned generations.
The Man Behind the Kayfabe Brother
LeDuc’s defining career move came when he convinced his close friend, Michel Pigeon, to join him in professional wrestling. The two were not actually related, but they presented themselves as brothers in the ring, with Pigeon adopting the name Jos LeDuc. Together they formed the LeDuc Brothers in 1957, though their most famous run together came later, between 1968 and 1974, when the pairing made them stars.
Trained in part by the legendary Stu Hart, the duo debuted together in Stampede Wrestling in Calgary, where they adopted a lumberjack gimmick as a tribute to the late wrestler “Yukon” Eric Holmback and captured the promotion’s International Tag Team Championship. When it later emerged publicly that the two were not actually brothers, it became a significant headline in Quebec, since most fans had believed the storyline.
Championship Runs and a Wedding in the Ring
The LeDucs built one of their era’s most memorable rivalries after returning to Montreal, feuding with the Rougeau wrestling family and the Vachon brothers, Maurice and Paul. That feud culminated in a match against the Vachons that drew the largest crowd ever recorded for a wrestling event in Quebec.
The team captured the Grand Prix Wrestling Tag Team Championship twice, in 1972 and 1973. Wrestling in Florida under the name the Canadian Lumberjacks, they defeated Dusty Rhodes and Dick Slater in December 1973 to win the NWA Florida Tag Team Championship, extending their reputation well beyond Canada’s borders.
Beyond his in-ring accomplishments, LeDuc became part of wrestling folklore in 1971 when he was legitimately married inside the ring during a live show in Montreal, a moment that remains one of the most talked-about in Quebec wrestling history.
Life After the LeDuc Brothers
Pigeon, LeDuc’s tag-team partner, died in 1999 at age 54. LeDuc continued to work in wrestling long after their partnership ended, wrestling as late as 2008, according to Sportskeeda’s report on his death. In 2000, he founded his own promotion, the FLQ, which remained active for more than two decades and became a lasting part of his legacy in independent Quebec wrestling.
LeDuc is survived by his sons, Carl and Yan, and his daughter, Kim. His son Carl LeDuc followed him into the sport and went on to wrestle for promotions including the World Wrestling Federation, Stampede Wrestling and Impact Wrestling. A cause of death has not been publicly reported.

Tributes to LeDuc emphasized his lasting influence on Canadian wrestling and his decades of dedication to the independent scene, even after his own in-ring career wound down. The Cauliflower Alley Club noted that his passion for professional wrestling remained with him throughout his life, while Laprade extended condolences to LeDuc’s children and loved ones on behalf of the wrestling community.
