What Sean Ono Lennon’s baby name means
Sean Ono Lennon has welcomed his first child with his partner, Charlotte Kemp Muhl.
Lennon, the 50-year-old son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, made the announcement on social media. “Charlotte and I would like to announce that we have indeed created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius! Thank you!”
In the image, he and Kemp Muhl are both cradling the infant who is dressed in a striped sleep suit.
Lennon also shared a picture of Kemp Muhl in the hospital, with baby Aurelius cradled to her chest, captioned “Baby Momma!”
Kemp Muhl also shared a series of snaps to her Instagram. “We made a human! Am convinced DNA is agentic alien quaternary code. The sleep deprivation only adds to the surrealism…Burping technique tips welcome.”
In one of the images, she wears a baby carrier and holds a crab up to the camera. In other images she stands in a body of shallow water while wearing the baby carrier, and in a separate photo, Lennon holds baby Aurelius.
The couple met in 2005 at Coachella and have worked together on multiple musical projects, including as the duo The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Lennon has been a member of a number of bands throughout his career, including The Claypool Lennon Delirium and Cibo Matto.
He has also released three solo albums, including 2024’s Asterisms and the 1998 record Into the Sun.
What Does the Name Aurelius Mean?
The name Aurelius means “golden” or “gilded.” It is of Latin origin and has a feminine counterpart, Aurélie.
Marcus Aurelius was a 2nd-century Roman emperor and philosopher and Aurelius was the name of several early saints.
While the name does not directly appear in the work of Lennon or Ono, the word golden and the color gold feature in the oeuvre of both of their work.
Notably, golden features on The Beatles’ iconic 1969 album Abbey Road, on the track “Golden Slumbers.” That song includes the lyrics: “Golden slumbers fill your eyes, smiles awake you when you rise, sleep pretty darling do not cry, and I will sing a lullaby.”
Meanwhile, back in 2015, Ono debuted an art installation entitled Golden Ladders, which featured a series of gilded step ladders of various heights
Lennon married Ono in 1969 and told The Beatles that he was leaving the group that year.
After the breakup of the band in 1970, Lennon went on to release 11 studio albums under his own name, with Ono and with the Plastic Ono Band.
He was shot and killed by Mark David Chapman in December 1980.
The lives and legacy of The Beatles continue to be a mainstay in public consciousness. Attention on the group and its members is set to intensify as The Beatles are getting a major cinematic treatment through a four-film biopic series, entitled The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, which is set for release in April of 2028.
