Russell Howard Baby Loss: What Happened to His Son Felix and Who Is His Wife Cerys Morgan?

British comedian Russell Howard has revealed that his newborn son, Felix, died shortly after birth earlier this year, describing the loss as “the most devastating time of our lives” as he and his wife, Dr. Cerys Morgan, turn their grief into a campaign to support other bereaved families.

The 46-year-old comedian shared the news on Instagram on Friday, September 4, explaining that his family had been “changed forever” by Felix’s death.

The couple had not publicly announced they were expecting another child before the loss, according to PEOPLE.

What happened to Russell Howard’s son Felix?

Howard has not publicly disclosed the cause of his son’s death.

Instead, his statement focused on the care the family received from hospital staff during the immediate aftermath.

“During the most devastating time of our lives, the hospital staff who cared for us showed extraordinary compassion, kindness and humanity,” Howard said in his Instagram statement.

He also mentioned a bereavement midwife named Lauren, who Howard said had experienced the death of her own baby and later retrained as a midwife.

Her support became an important part of the family’s experience.

Howard explained that Felix was placed in a cool cot, allowing him and Morgan to spend precious additional time with their son.

“We could hold him, talk to him and tell him just how much we loved him,” Howard wrote, according to PEOPLE. He described those hours as “among the most precious memories we have of Felix.”

The couple’s decision to speak publicly now is to also improve support for other parents facing neonatal and infant loss.

Who is Cerys Morgan?

Cerys Morgan is Howard’s wife and an NHS doctor.

Sky News identifies her as an NHS doctor, while PEOPLE describes her as an NHS geriatric doctor.

Howard and Morgan married in 2019 after being together for years.

They also have another son, born in August 2024.

The couple has generally kept their family life away from the spotlight which explains Felix’s birth and death that had not ben publicly discussed before Howard’s September 4 announcement.

Why did Russell Howard create the Felix Foundation?

In memory of their son, Howard and Morgan have established The Felix Foundation, which aims to help families affected by miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth, neonatal death and related bereavement.

The foundation plans to support specialist facilities, equipment, training and other resources designed to improve care for bereaved families.

Howard said the family made a promise to try to help others after experiencing the compassion of hospital staff themselves.

“We miss him dearly, every single day,” Howard wrote, adding that they take comfort in the hope that Felix’s name will stand for “kindness, compassion and laughter.”

When is the Felix Foundation charity gala?

Howard will host a fundraising comedy gala at The O2 in London on February 8, 2027.

The confirmed lineup includes Aisling Bea, Greg Davies, Guz Khan, Jimmy Carr, John Bishop, Michael McIntyre, Mo Gilligan and Michelle Wolf, alongside Howard.

The Felix Foundation says the performers are donating their time to support the cause.

The O2 currently lists the event for February 8, 2027, with doors scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
