Sophie Cunningham’s personal life drew attention on Friday after photos of the Indiana Fever guard with her rumored boyfriend circulated widely on social media. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model was seen smiling alongside Frank Adams, the head athletic trainer for Grand Canyon University’s men’s basketball program, while the two were on a boat at Lake of the Ozarks, according to The Sun.

The photos, shared by the X account “Fever Updates,” appeared to have been taken during Cunningham’s 30th birthday celebration in Missouri on Sept. 7. She later posted photos on Instagram wearing the same bikini and posing with a birthday cake, further suggesting the images were from the celebration.

Adams joined Grand Canyon University’s sports medicine staff in 2025 after spending six seasons with the Phoenix Suns as an assistant athletic trainer. Cunningham’s connection to Phoenix is also notable. She played for the Phoenix Mercury from 2019 through 2024, while both the Mercury and Suns are owned by Mat Ishbia.

That shared Phoenix connection has added another layer of interest to the speculation surrounding Cunningham and Adams.

Neither Cunningham nor Adams has publicly commented on the recent attention surrounding their relationship. However, the two have been seen together previously, including at Grand Canyon University basketball games earlier this year.

The WNBA guard has remained a prominent figure beyond her performances on the court, particularly because of her outspoken views on transgender participation in women’s sports.

Team USA overcame an early 14-point deficit against France before pulling away for a 97-79 victory in Sunday’s FIBA World Cup final.

The win gave the U.S. women their fifth consecutive FIBA World Cup championship. The result also provided a major basketball storyline during a period when the WNBA season was temporarily paused.
