Patrick Clancy: Lindsay Clancy’s Former Husband Reveals in First Interview Since Mistrial that He Still Speaks to His Dead Children
Lindsay Clancy’s former husband said in an interview clip set to air late Thursday night that he continues to speak to his three dead children “all the time,” asking them to “help” him cope with his grief. “I talk to them,” Patrick Clancy told CBS correspondent Ross Douthat during his first interview since his ex-wife’s mistrial in the deaths of their three children.
When asked what he says to his three dead children, Clancy replied: “‘Help me.’ All the time.” Former delivery nurse Lindsay Clancy, 36, admitted to strangling the couple’s three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and eight-month-old Callan — at their home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in late January 2023.
Father’s Grief
Her highly publicized murder trial ended in a mistrial after jurors deadlocked 11-1, with one juror refusing to support an acquittal. Although Clancy admitted killing the children, her attorneys argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time and should not be held legally responsible for her actions.
The jury spent more than 38 hours deliberating over seven days before informing Plymouth Superior Court Judge William Sullivan that they could not agree on a verdict. The deadlock brought Lindsay Clancy’s closely watched murder trial to an end with a mistrial.
During the proceedings, Patrick, who remarried in April and now lives in New York, became the subject of online speculation and accusations surrounding the deaths of his three children.
His attorney said Patrick and his family have faced threats and a growing wave of misinformation promoted across social media. Reports from CBS Boston, ABC News and WBUR said online conspiracy theories falsely alleged that Patrick had been involved in the children’s deaths, despite such claims not being part of the evidence presented at trial.
Howard Cooper, Patrick’s attorney, said the situation had intensified in the months surrounding the trial and created concerns extending beyond his client’s reputation.
No Connection
“Over the past months, Patrick Clancy and his family have been subjected to a relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign,” Cooper told Boston 25 News.
In a separate statement, Cooper said the allegations had resulted in threats to Patrick’s “reputation, livelihood and life.” He also said law enforcement had been notified and warned that legal action could follow against those responsible for spreading what he described as false claims.
“This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potential profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims.”
Cooper indicated that legal action could be considered against those accused of spreading the false claims.
While testifying, Patrick maintained a composed demeanor as he described his ex-wife as a caring mother. He recalled how she would “make up songs” for their children and prepare special meals, including green eggs and ham.
