Pete Alonso’s loud return offers stark reminder of the other hard-to-stomach moves

There was something that was bothering me after watching Pete Alonso at Citi Field this week.

It was hard to put my finger on it. Sure, it was a little odd to hear a home crowd root for a visiting player. Maybe it was a little disconcerting hearing the random chants for David Stearns’ job, although you imagine that might be a regular part of the soundtrack of the 2027 baseball season, too.

(Assuming there is a 2027 baseball season.)

But I realized it wasn’t any of that.
