Gypsy Rose and Ken Urker Love Story: From Prison Letters to Baby Daughter
Ken Urker died on Oct. 1, 2026, at age 34, renewing interest in the relationship that connected him to Gypsy Rose Blanchard for years.
The pair first met through letters in 2017 while Blanchard was serving her prison sentence. Their relationship developed from that early correspondence into a romance that experienced both, major milestones and periods of separation.
How Gypsy Rose and Ken Urker Met in Prison
Urker first reached out to Blanchard in 2017 after watching the HBO documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest, which examined her childhood and the 2015 killing of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.
A letter of support developed into regular correspondence, phone calls and eventually a romantic relationship. Urker visited Blanchard while she was incarcerated, and the pair later became engaged during a prison visit in October 2018.
Their engagement did not last as they split in August 2019 after roughly two years together, remaining connected for years afterward.
Their Relationship Took Different Paths
While Blanchard remained incarcerated, she eventually began a relationship with Ryan Anderson. The two married in a prison ceremony in July 2022.
Blanchard was released from prison in December 2023. She and Anderson separated in March 2024, and she filed for divorce the following month. Around the same period was when she reconnected with Urker.
By late April 2024, Blanchard publicly confirmed that she and Urker were together again.
“After reconnecting earlier this month, we realized that our love for each other is simply undeniable,” Blanchard told TMZ, adding that their shared history provided “the perfect foundation for a new beginning.”
Urker said he moved closer to Blanchard as they worked toward building a life together, and in July 2024, the couple announced they were expecting their first child.
Gypsy Rose and Ken Urker Welcome Daughter Aurora
Blanchard and Urker’s daughter, Aurora Raina Urker, was born Dec. 28, 2024, exactly one year after Blanchard’s release from prison.
Urker announced the birth on Instagram on New Year’s Day 2025 with a photo of the family and the caption, “Welcoming 2025 with the greatest gift of all.”
The couple had also publicly addressed questions about Aurora’s paternity during the pregnancy. Blanchard later shared prenatal paternity-test results confirming Urker as the biological father.
Ken Urker’s Death and Latest Update
Urker died Oct. 1, 2026, at a residence in Raceland, Louisiana, on his 34th birthday. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office told TMZ that deputies responded at about 6:15 p.m. and found him dead upon arrival. Authorities said the death investigation was ongoing.
Blanchard has since told PEOPLE that she believes Urker suffered an apparent overdose but said she does not know what substance he may have taken or whether it was intentional.
Those circumstances have not been established as the official cause of death as they further investigate.
