Deadly Central Park bike crash and more: Letters to the Editor — Oct. 4, 2026

Deadly park chaos

A father died after he was hit by a bicycle while taking a stroll through Central Park on his way to work (“Bike strike kills dad in Cent. Pk.,” Sept. 29).

Years ago, cars drove in Central Park.

While the exhaust was bad for the air, they at least observed traffic lights.

Lights are now sometimes covered over and bikers, e-bikers and motorcyclists rule the road — speeding from both directions and not stopping for walkers.

One literally puts their life in the hands of bicyclists when trying to cross the road.

People ride bikes on pathways, and smoke cigarettes, marijuana and litter while riding.

Something needs to be done.

AOC hiding out

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez receives daily media attention and craves higher office, but she has been missing from her current district while she campaigns for socialists all over the country (“Nowhere to be AO-seen,” Sept. 29).

Meanwhile her GOP challenger, Diamant Hysenaj, has been mounting a real grassroots campaign with barely any attention from the media.

Hysenaj, an immigrant who escaped communism and became a successful New York City builder, defies the caricature of America that Cortez and other socialists portray.

No wonder AOC is avoiding a debate with Hysenaj while the media covers for her.

Cut carbon now!

The Post’s editorial board is happy to rely on the Environmental Protection Agency to protect our air though  the EPA will no longer limit polluting emissions from coal and gas power plants (“More Losses for Climate Lunacy,” Editorial, Sept. 28).

Describing those who are trying to mitigate human-made climate change as “nutty” or “extremist” ignores the fact that not acting on this threat is far more insane and ultimately damaging to the economy.

To cite just one example, we’re already paying higher insurance rates because of wildfires, drought, and historic rainfall.

Go ahead and dismiss the state Legislature’s efforts to hold fossil-fuel companies accountable for their continued pollution.

But do so knowing that we have very few avenues right now to curb emissions.

Left’s hypocrisy

Sydney Sweeney poses practically nude with a couple of footballs and the screwballs on the left are hyperventilating (“Novig is barring its value,” Oct. 1).

Meanwhile, women are selling their bodies on Roosevelt Avenue in front of families, and it’s no big deal to the same losers.

And these idiots want to control your health care.

Tisch for mayor

I read with excitement former Gov. David Paterson’s observation that NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch would make a wonderful next New York City mayor (“Commish Jess the ticket,” Sept. 28).

We need an adult who has actual experience in City Hall.

Tisch comes from wealth but has chosen public service since 2008, when she began at the NYPD in an entry-level position.

She then served in the Sanitation Department and later returned to the NYPD as the police commissioner.

Jessica Tisch is ready for prime time and boy, do we need someone of her dedication, intelligence and determination to lead.
