‘Avengers: Endgame’ Overtakes ‘Avatar’ Again as Highest Grossing Movie Ever
Disney/Marvel Studio’s Avengers: Endgame is once again, the highest grossing movie ever, overtaking Avatar, $2.9255 billion to the latter’s $2.9237 billion.
This is all due to the re-release of the Anthony and Joe Russo directed movie in the tee-up to their Avengers: Doomsday upside down multiverse movie on Dec. 18.
Endgame was king of the world at the box office once before when it was announced at Comic-Con 2019 that the movie beaten the James Cameron Na’Vi film.
The re-release of Endgame, entitled, Avengers: Endgame Encore plummeted in its second weekend with $4.4M, -81% from its No. 1 notch last weekend with a $26.1M start. The pic’s running stateside cume is $894.6M, the No. 3 off all-time behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day ($954.4M) and Star Wars: Force Awakens ($936.6M).
The foreign running cume for Endgame is $2.03B, No. 2 on the all-time MPA box office list.
Endgame Encore was the top non-local movie in China ($21.3M) as well Indonesia, Vietnam, Ecuador and Bolivia. The second global weekend for Encore was $18.8M ($14.4M coming from 52 territories). The global cume for the re-release is $126M ($36.2M stateside, and $89.8M abroad).
Endgame Encore has become the highest grossing re-release across Latin America, particularly Mexico ($6.1M), Brazil ($3.1M), Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, as well as Malaysia, India ($3.8M), and Indonesia.
In a fanboy juggernaut on Dec. 18, Doomsday will be up against Paramount/Warner Bros/Legendary’s Dune: Part Three in what is expected to be another Barbenheimer-like weekend.
