Why Harry and Meghan May Skip Christmas With King Charles as Royal Rift Continues
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Christmas plans are drawing attention as questions persist over their place in the royal family’s festive celebrations. With the holidays approaching, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex face speculation about whether they will reunite with King Charles III and other senior royals.
A Page Six report published Oct. 9, citing an unnamed source, said the couple did not intend to spend Christmas with the royal family. Although their final arrangements have not been publicly confirmed, the reported decision has fueled further speculation about the strained relationships between Harry, his father and his brother, Prince William.
A Royal Christmas Reunion Appears Unlikely
According to Page Six, the Sussexes are considering spending Christmas at their current accommodation in Northamptonshire or returning to California, where Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, lives. The report suggests the couple would prefer to avoid a potentially difficult family gathering while tensions persist.
A source quoted by Page Six described the royal household’s hierarchy, saying, “There is a hierarchy,” before comparing the King to a chief executive and adding that “it’s better not to put themselves in any difficult position.”
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams offered a similarly pessimistic assessment in comments reported by the Express and republished by AOL. He said the chances of Harry and Meghan being invited to spend Christmas with the royal family were “nil,” while acknowledging that it was not known whether they would be invited to the extended family’s annual Christmas lunch.
The Royal Dispute Behind the Christmas Uncertainty
Harry and Meghan stepped back from their roles as working royals in 2020 and later settled in California. Harry’s memoir, Spare, and the couple’s Netflix documentary series offered their accounts of life within the monarchy, bringing their differences with the royal family into public spotlight.
The relationship between Harry and William has also remained strained, adding to uncertainty over a potential family reunion. Neither brother has publicly confirmed the arrangements for this year’s Christmas celebrations.
What Harry’s Recent Meeting With Charles Revealed
In July, King Charles and Queen Camilla reportedly hosted Harry, Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, at Highgrove House for a private family meeting. The reported meeting suggested that contact between the families continued, but did not confirm a wider reconciliation.
For now, Harry and Meghan’s Christmas plans remain unconfirmed.
