Jared Goff sends heartfelt message to Lions broadcaster after wife’s death

The Detroit Lions came away with a dominant win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday to improve to 3-2 on the 2026 NFL season. But for many Lions players and coaches, the game was secondary following some tragic news regarding the wife of longtime Lions radio broadcaster Dan Miller.

Miller, who has been in the local Lions broadcast booth since 2005, was not on the call of Sunday’s matchup after the death of his wife, Cindy Miller, at the age of 63 on Saturday.

Following Sunday’s win, Goff was the first of many within the Lions organization who made it known publicly that the Miller family was on their minds following this tragic news.

In his postgame interview on the field after the game, Goff shared an emotional message to Dan Miller, letting him know how much he means to the Lions organization.

“Yeah, we’re thinking about Dan,” said Goff, as he appeared to fight back tears. “Yeah, sorry… We’re thinking about you Dan. Love you man… He’s just an important piece of the culture here. He really is. His voice is Lions football and he means a lot to us. He is a part of our family. I talk to him weekly. I know he is in our hearts right now and all of our prayers.”

Lions head coach Dan Campbell largely echoed the same sentiments pertaining to how much the Lions organization loves Miller. In his postgame press conference after the game, Campbell gave Miller the game ball.

“This ball goes to Dan Miller and his family,” said Campbell. “It was hard to hear what they went through. I know it has been a tough road for Dan. This is for him. Salt of the earth, man, Dan is salt of the earth. I know this has been hard. But now I know that Cindy is at peace. We love you Dan, appreciate you.”

The Detroit Lions will rest up in Week 6, their bye week, before returning to action in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers.
