‘The Mummy’ Movie Reteaming Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weiss Gets A Title
Universal Pictures said Thursday that the next installment in its The Mummy franchise that will return Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz to their starring roles is titled The Mummy: Book of the Dead. The pic remains set to hit theaters on October 15, 2027.
Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing the new film from a script by The Family Plan‘s David Coggeshall. The logline remains under wraps.
Fraser and Rachel Weisz return to their roles of Rick and Evie, first played in the 1999 franchise kickoff The Mummy directed by Stephen Sommers. John Hannan, Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr also return from that original cast for the new installment, joined by Michael Johnston and Numan Acar.
Sean Daniel, who produced The Mummy, 2001’s The Mummy Returns, 2002’s The Scorpion King, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and 2017’s Tom Cruise-led The Mummy for Universal, returns to produce alongside Project X Entertainment’s William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein, and Clayton Townsend. Fraser and Hivemind’s Jason F. Brown are executive producers.
Despite starring in the first two movies, Weisz sat out the third movie, 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Maria Bello took over the role, joining Fraser.
Fraser has since said he’s been waiting 20 years for the call to return to the franchise, which combined has grossed more than $1.8 billion at the global box office.
