Whoopi Goldberg To Join Joy Behar In Performance Of Behar’s Off Broadway Play ‘My First Ex-Husband’

Whoopi Goldberg To Join Joy Behar In Performance Of Behar’s Off Broadway Play ‘My First Ex-Husband’

The View costars Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar will soon share a stage of an entirely different sort: Goldberg will appear for one performance only with Behar in the latter’s Off Broadway comedic play My First Ex-Husband.

Behar announced the team-up on her Instagram account, captioning a photo of the two, “The reunion we’ve been waiting for!”

The matinee performance is set for Wednesday, April 30, at 2 p.m./ET. The play, which features a rotating cast of actresses as directed by Randal Myler (Love, Janis), is staged at the newly renovated MMAC Theater on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

The play’s official synopsis: “If half of all marriages end in divorce, then in My First Ex-Husband, women live to laugh about it….In the world of the play, you’ll meet women married to the mob, to their jobs, to their faith, to money and ultimately to the wrong man. Their stories are your stories…only funnier.”

Previous casts, which change monthly, have included Susie Essman, Tovah Feldshuh, Adrienne C. Moore and Susan Lucci.

Behar was part of the initial cast in January and returns from April 11 to April 13 – she was absent from The View today, April 10, possibly for play rehearsal as she’d done in January – and then again for the single performance with Goldberg.

Other performers scheduled to appear through June 29 are Veanne Cox, Jackie Hoffman, Carolyn McCormick, Andrea Navedo, Marilu Henner, Marsha Mason, Benja K Thomas, Julia Sweeney, Alisia Reiner, Renee Taylor and Mary Testa. See below for the rundown with dates.

Both Goldberg and Behar have previous stage experience, with Behar having appeared in Nicky Silver’s play The Food Chain and Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues. She also wrote and performed in her own solo show, Me, My Mouth and I, at the Cherry Lane Theatre.

Goldberg, of course, make her career-changing Broadway debut in the 1984 solo show Whoopi Goldberg, and followed that up with roles in A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Ma Rainey’s Black Body, Whoopi, Xanadu and Sister Act. More recently, she joined the touring company of the Annie revival for the show’s December holiday stint at New York’s Madison Square Garden – she played the villainous Miss Hannigan, who runs an orphanage and terrorizes Annie and the other little girls.

My First Ex-Husband is produced by Rose Caiola (Caiola Productions) and Cyrena Esposito (Red Letter Entertainment) with Associate Producers Mark Rubinsky and Tony Castrigno.
