‘Nobody Wants This’ Creator Responds To Adam Brody’s “Free Palestine” Remarks
As Nobody Wants This returns to Netflix for Season 3, Erin Foster has addressed Adam Brody‘s recent comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The series creator recently explained that although she does “disagree” with the star of her 6x Golden Globe-nominated romantic-comedy, Brody is “entitled to a different opinion” from hers, following his “Free Palestine” comments.
“You know, it’s complicated. I think our work environment, our set is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing,” she explained on an upcoming episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. “While I love Adam, I also disagree with him. And that’s okay.”
Foster added, “I think that as the creator of the show, all I can say is that I want our Jewish fans to know that I see you and I hear you and I understand how you feel. And the show has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism. That is why I made this show. It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person, and sitting here right now at this time in the world where there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that.”
“That being said, everyone is entitled to a different opinion than me. I can just tell you what I created this show for, what the intention of the show is,” said Foster, who also makes a guest appearance in Season 3, now available to stream.
In Nobody Wants This, inspired by Foster’s relationship with her music exec husband Simon Tikhman, agnostic podcaster Joanne Williams (Kristen Bell) begins an unexpected romance with Rabbi Noah Roklov (Brody), which shakes both their families as Joanne immerses herself in Noah’s culture and decides to convert to Judaism.
Last month, Brody told GQ, “Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine. It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago. I’m hopeful that another administration can really do some good and correct some of these policies that are helping that situation be as awful as it is.”
The show’s Season 1 rabbi consultant subsequently called Brody an “ignorant Jew” for referring to the situation in Gaza as a genocide, calling his words “truly shocking.”
Since Israel’s ongoing strikes on Gaza in the wake of Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack, multiple organizations have classified Israel’s actions as a genocide against Palestinians, including the United Nations, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
