Everything we know about ‘Other Worlds,’ the sew ‘Stranger Things’ spin-off

Today’s date is November 6, 2026, a day known as “Stranger Things Day” amongst the Stranger Things fandom because it marks the anniversary of when young Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) was first lost to the Upside Down. Stranger Things Day is also the day that Netflix likes to surprise fans with major Stranger Things-related news and today is no different.

Netflix revealed that the first official Stranger Things spin-off is on its way. Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure is a new prequel show set in 1950s Nevada before the events of the original Stranger Things series and prequel play Stranger Things: The First Shadow. The Duffer Brothers co-created the new show alongside long-time Stranger Things writer (and The First Shadow playwright) Kate Trefey. Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, Hanna) will direct the first three episodes.

“Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure takes us to the 1950s with new heroes and all the heart, mystery, and spectacle of the original series,” Netflix Head of Scripted Series, US & Canada, Jinny Howe shared in an official press release.

“We’ve been dreaming of Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure for many years now, and to see it become a reality is surreal and exhilarating,” The Duffer Brothers added. “We’re so grateful to our incredible team of collaborators: our showrunner Kate Trefry, who has been in the trenches with us since Season 2 and wrote Stranger Things: The First Shadow; and our director, Joe Wright, a brilliant artist whose work we’ve long admired. We can’t wait for you to see what they’re cooking up. It’s Stranger Things, but also thrillingly fresh, with a new setting, new heroes and villains, and new… actually, we’re not allowed to say any more. Now, on to casting. In the meantime — watch the skies, nerds!”

So what do we know about Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure? Here’s everything you need to know about the new Stranger Things prequel on this Stranger Things Day…

What is the Stranger Things Prequel, Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, About?

Even though the official press release for Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure stresses that the show will follow “new heroes and villains” in a “new setting,” the official announcement takes us to Marion, Nevada in the 1950s. Note: young Henry Creel was first exposed to the Mind Flayer’s powers in a mine shaft in Rachel, Nevada. We’re also given an exact date for the action: April 15, 1955.

The official announcement shows a bicycle on the ground with a radio attached, suggesting a we’ll have a new crew of local kids who get pulled into a larger conspiracy. We might see the Creels again — even though Google maps places a Marion Mine in Nevada a good four hour drive away from Rachel — but the new series will likely delve deeper into the experiments that led a rogue scientist to wind up in a mine shaft with a rock connected to the Mind Flayer in a briefcase in the first place! (We’re assuming.)

How Is Other Worlds Connected to Stranger Things: The First Shadow?

Other Worlds is set before Stranger Things: The First Shadow and shares a writing team (the Duffer Brothers and Kate Trefey) and state setting.

When Will Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure Come Out? Other Worlds Release Date:

We don’t have an exact date for Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, but Netflix has promised that it will be streaming some time in 2028.

Given the production timelines of other major Netflix productions, there’s a good chance it will take about two years for the new series to be filmed, so our best guess is that Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure might be a Thanksgiving or Holiday 2028 release.

Is There a New Episode of Stranger Things on Netflix?

No, the Stranger Things “Conformity Gate” theory that a special bonus episode of Stranger Things was still on the way from showrunners The Duffer Brothers is still not true! Stranger Things is OVER! But Stranger Things will never die.

Maybe there isn’t a new episode of Stranger Things on Netflix today, but there will be a brand new show, Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, streaming in 2028.
