Scottie Scheffler Reveals to Wife, Meredith, What Went Wrong at the Masters

The World No. 1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler, has been healing with disappointment through his game since he recovered from his palm injury. During his pre-Masters press conference, the PGA Tour professional revealed how it was still impacting his game.

Now, the defending RBC Heritage champion has returned to Harbour Town Golf Links after coming up just short of defending his Masters title as Rory McIlroy secured his grand slam on Sunday.

When asked about his performance at Augusta National from Hilton Head, site of this week’s RBC Heritage, Scheffler had a lot to say.

Interestingly, Scheffler appeared very at ease. He was darn near jovial, which is not his most common demeanor. He even detailed the explanation to his wife as to what went wrong at Augusta.

On Tuesday, the 13-time PGA Tour winner revealed his conversation with his wife, Meredith, about what bothered him while defending his Masters title this year.

“I told Meredith one night, one of the hardest parts of today is, when I aim the golf ball this way [pointing in front of himself] is it either went that way [pointing to his right] or that way [pointing to his left]. It very rarely went that way [pointing straight ahead],” Scheffler expressed during the RBC Heritage pre-tournament press conference.

Well, this was not the first time the World No. 1 expressed his frustration with precision. During the Players Championship, which could have been his 3-peat, he shared a similar experience.

“It was a taxing week for me, but like I said, I haven’t had my best stuff this year, but I feel like I’m learning a lot. Each week I feel like I’m improving and continuing to learn,” Scottie Scheffler expressed after the players.

But there was a very large difference in how he carried himself this time. He made several jokes while detailing what went wrong.

And why not? Despite the challenges, Scheffler carded a total of 8-under par, 72, finishing in fourth place at Augusta.

After spending precious practice time before the press conference working on his swing, Scheffler’s optimism was evident as he looked forward to competing at Harbour Town.

“I hit some balls before I came over here today. I feel like each day I come to the range, I’m getting a little bit better. Things are starting to feel more the way they should,” he shared, showcasing an improvement after weeks of injury frustration.

“I’m excited for this week. It’s a really good test of ball striking, this golf course. You’ve got to curve it both ways. You’ve got to hit shots. We’re going to get some wind.

“You have to control spin, control trajectory. I’m looking forward to this week,” Sheffler added, expressing his emotions for this week.
