Jean Smart Out Of Broadway’s ‘Call Me Izzy’ This Week Due To Knee Injury

Jean Smart is out of her solo Broadway play Call Me Izzy this week due to a knee injury. An Instagram message on the show’s official page says, “We look forward to having her back on stage as soon as she recovers.”

The role of Izzy will be played by Johanna Day from July 8 to July 11. The production’s 12-week limited run at Studio 54 ends August 17.

Day, a two-time Tony nominee for Proof and Sweat, also filled in for the critically acclaimed Smart this past weekend. As is usual when stars are out, the show’s grosses took a hit, dropping to $233,730 from the previous week’s $505,848. Attendance at Studio 54 for the week ending July 6 was at just 46%.

Call Me Izzy was written by Jamie Wax and directed by Sarna Lapine.
