San Marcos Police identify victim, provide details in River Road homicide
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The San Marcos Police Department identified the victim and provided additional details regarding Friday’s homicide investigation on River Road.
At around 2:30 p.m. Friday, SMPD said it got a 911 call from a man who stated he had just “killed his wife,” adding that he had “shot her.” The caller then hung up, and after the dispatcher repeatedly called back he did not answer.
Officers then arrived at the scene where they found the back door of the apartment was open. When they entered the home, they found a woman in the back bedroom with a fatal gunshot wound.
SMPD identified the victim as 43-year-old Victoria Valadez.
With the initial investigation available, SMPD was able to identify the suspect as 47-year-old Juan Manuel Yanez. Detectives linked Yanez’s phone number to the one used during the 911 call.
Yanez was not found at the scene but was later apprehended Friday night by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Attorney information isn’t available for Yanez as of Monday.
Yanez currently faces a murder charge and is being held on a $1 million dollar bond, according to authorities.
